Thanksgiving is Thursday.
We shop on Friday because we don't have to work and hubby is available to babysit. Please be real. There are things to do and we do it...shopping is one of those things.
I’ve NEVER shopped on Thanksgiving day, the day after, even the weekend after. This is time for us to reflect and give thanks. This is one of the few long weekends I allow myself leisure. If that means drinking beer and watching football, that’s what I do.
There will come a day where the backlash against retailers is so much so that retailers don’t go into the black the day after, because people will be so fed up with their materialistic pandering BS.
His dad would grit his teeth and we would pray for the blessings we have received. No shopping back then. It was all about the deer....and the 12 pointer that got away.
Wanna fix the expected slump in low end retail stores for holiday, Christmas sales...just simple broom Obama and Obamacare!!! The Democrat Party has a very short window of opportunity to force Obama to resign, repeal the entire Obamacare bill, and/or, impeach Obama!!! If they do not take action to broom Obama very soon....the Democrat Party will face destruction...like they never dreamed of, come November, 2014!!!
It’s a PERSONAL CHOICE whether or not you go shopping on Thursday (or Fri, Sat, Sun). I’m thankful we still HAVE that choice. I’m going to embrace capitalism while we still have it. Don’t like the Thursday thing? Don’t do it.
I refuse to shop or eat out on Thanksgiving. I won’t be the reason some poor shmuck has to work that day.
Stand up for Turkey day. Wait, I mean Thanksgiving!
Given the state of the economy the additional day of shopping could very well make the difference of survival for many businesses. Simply don’t go shopping if you object. For those who are compelled to work, I don’t have an answer. It would be too subjective to personal circumstance.
As I understand it, the ‘Christmas shopping season’ traditionally begins after Thanksgiving. Canadian businesses are now adopting this idea, as well. The problem is, our Thanksgiving Day is the first Monday in October, so we get an additional six weeks of Christmas promotions.
FWIW, Costco in Calgary already had Christmas trees, ornaments and chocolates for sale in mid-September.
Between this and the nuts who already have their Christmas trees up, I want to scream.
This is my favorite holiday of the year. What can I say? I live for basting a giant bird and coming up with a vat of gravy my sister insists is it’s only food group. (that’s my job :))
I usually skip church because of the turkey, but again, this is always a warm wonderful service.
Nothing is “sacred”, really, unless God makes it sacred to you in a real way. I don’t believe it matters what era you live in. Yes, life is generally better if society has even a sham form of godliness and plays by “rules”, but when disintegration comes “what can be shaken will be shaken”. I’m preaching my own funeral here, lol, but we each have to call on the name of The Lord and be made whole to live as those “seated with Christ” in whatever time we find ourselves in this present evil age.
Jesus is the Way, and every other way is not. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
People work on Thanksgiving, always have. Many stores are open on Thanksgiving, always have been. Funny how nobody cared about it until WalMart decided to be open, then it became a great tragedy. I just hope none of the people complaining about it are planning on watching the parade, or really any TV, don’t listen to the radio either, and you sure better not need gas or emergency ingredients for dinner, pretty much all travel is out... Meanwhile I’m going to my favorite restaurant.
I agree but instead of saying we’re going to “stand up”, I prefer to frame it as showing others what they are missing by running off to shop. If we try to frame this as a ‘protest’,,we’re not going to gain any traction. It will be more about conservatives grumbling.
You did something really helpful here. Thanks to this post, I am going to reach out to my neighbors and tell them how much fun we plan on having on T-giving,,then watching the Ravens game Thurs night, hanging out, playing games, safe in our homes and friends and family and a few drinks....and we hope they will come by, stop by and join us because neighbors and friends and families mean so much. The TVs will always be there.....maybe if we are able to present the alternative as irresistible as it truly is, we can make stronger bonds with the people in our lives, plus reinforce the true Thanksgiving. The shoppers can shop if they want,,but oh boy,,they are missing out on some special time if they do. What do you think?
No discount is worth being in those stores on “Black Friday” or any other frenzied shopping day. Already if the parking lot is full, I don’t go in and it is not because I don’t want to walk. If one shops in a modern WalMart what is the problem with another 1/8 of a mile to and from one’s car?
I agree. The big stores are ruining a great American tradition...but the people who flock to their stores are the real culprits. Macy’s and Walmart can’t afford to open on holidays if no one comes to shop.
There are those who will stand in line for hours and hours with extremely rude people to buy a lot of cheap crap Made in China. Others will omit the name of God like Obama has on numerous occasions.
On Thursday others will give a day of ‘Thanks’ and recognize and celebrate God's blessings on our country.
And everyone should ask themselves this. What will I be passing on to my children? That saving a couple bucks is more important then giving God His due acknowledgment and thanks?
