Any chance we could get a source and date on that?
Any chance we could get a source and date on that?
This explains nothing regarding your claim.
It certainly doesn’t answer my request for citation.
He chooses to decry "autonomy" rather than the heavy hand of Gov't which is what is blocking prosperity for the poor.
The quote is from the newly released Papal statement, the same one in which he bashes "trickle down" economics.
Religion is not necessary for capitalism and that's not a slam at religion which I respect deeply. Socialism is a system designed by man. Capitalism is not -- it is simply that which exists when free men meet each other to make mutually beneficial exchanges of their property.
Nothing more; nothing less. The esteemed Solzhenitsyn notwithstanding.
It shows nothing without a citation.
What is "unbridled" capitalism and which liberals do you speak of -- the classical liberals or the modern-day socialists who call themselves liberals?
If it's the latter, I should love to hear your reasoning.
Which side are you on and do you even know?
Well, I do know that markets are not tyrannical. If they are true markets, they can't be.
What are you talking about.
I cited the source which is what you asked for.
The newly released papal statement? What is the name of it. I what publication is it found in its entirety, in context?
Point well taken.
That is why the founding phrase, "freedom of individual enterprise," expresses your thought so well. Much later, the term "capitalism" came to popular use, and, for many, carries other meanings. Yet, America's Founders, believing in the "laws of nature," or Blackstone's "Creator's law," as they did, expected that such right to freedom would be exercised by an individual with respect for the "equal rights" of the other individual and recognizing a "higher law."
It seems that Solzhenytsin's statement falls within that framework.
Jefferson seemed to articulate that general idea in his June 1816 letter to Francis W. Gilmer:
"Our legislators are not sufficiently apprized of the rightful limits of their power; that their true office is to declare and enforce only our natural rights and duties, and to take none of them from us. No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another; and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him. . . ."

The ridiculous bashing of trickle down economics is #54.
# 54, in the context of all around it. In at least #52 and #55 he talks bout greed and corruption and then opens up # 54 by stating ‘’’within this context...
If you want to pretend he is a congressman calling, corruptly, for a distribution of wealth, you ‘re full of it.
Enough of this conversation fueled by an anti Pope, anti catholic bigotry.
Of course he mentions trickle down in the context of greed and corruption...all leftists do.
I have no idea what your point is.
The pope is not a leftist, nor is the Catholic church.
Sometimes, on this AntiCatholic friendly site, I choose to defend the Church, not to the ignorant writer, but for the sake of anyone who might be reading.

Well, then why does he make comments denigrating trickle down? And why in the context of greed and corruption does this make the comments OK as you implied when in actuality the context displays socialism?
You don't explain, but just say you're "defend the church". Well, then you are defending the fiscal liberal position.
You did NOT Explain how this makes the Pope a leftist
He is not And certainly not just because you. Say he is
Read the entire letter
WHAT are you talking about? The Pope is saying that economic growth via free markets does NOT succeed. That does explains right there how the Pope is taking a leftist position fiscally.
Do you even KNOW what "trickle down" means?
No he did not say that.
Let it go
