And if anyone ever changed channels in the airports, CNN would lost the other half of their “viewers”.

Bingo. Soros, along with money laundered by Team Obama such as O’care website $$$$, stimulus, and various other green projects such as Solyndra, etc., diverted to media outlets will ensure the media survives regardless their ratings.

I believe that is only true as long as they have extra income. If their own personal revenues fall enough, they may be forced to consider actual product that appeals to an actual audience.

Imagine if robot or CGI actors become good enough that people will accept them. The popularity of anime points in that direction, already. What will the real human actors do then?

Actors do go broke and do become passe. If/when the bottom line become paramount, the directors and producers will do whatever it takes to regain the audience. Actually, that may be the impetus behind the reality shows.

If I just want opinions, I can go on FB without the commercials.

Oh, they're not going to go broke themselves. They've got enough cash stashed that they don't ever have to worry about it. But they won't hesitate to drive their industry into the sewer. They already have.

Imagine if robot or CGI actors become good enough that people will accept them.

Speed the day! I give it another 10 years or so. Even the voices can be synthesized. Then Hollywood's monopoly is OVER. At least on the production side. Distribution is another matter, although the Internet will provide a populist medium for that.

What will the real human actors do then?

Go back to waiting tables and panhandling or giving head down at the bus station.

If/when the bottom line become paramount, the directors and producers will do whatever it takes to regain the audience.

Nope. They'll retire on the wealth they've accumulated in the meantime, leaving their "art" and their "craft" a shelled-out husk bereft of any integrity, value, or life.

Actually, that may be the impetus behind the reality shows.

No, those are insipid fabrications that cost little or nothing to produce and that pander to the trailer-park crowd. They're the last gasp of a dying -- and largely irrelevant -- medium.

Not fair!

You didn’t make that. Somebody else made that happen.

Redistribute the ratings!

Political ads... for democrats CNN and MSNBC are like one non-stop ad... they only have to pay for the small portion of ads that ‘looks like’ paid political ads... the shows are free...

I was so happy to go to a Safeway near work and see Fox on. Also, a small cafeteria at work (science and tech park) mostly has Fox on. But... I guess it’s because that’s a highly military contractor area, although with a lot of call centers and solar panel centers, plus some computer companies.

Hilarious. I once went jogging near desert area and some buzzards were circling around me during my run and I start laughing and kinda yelled at them, “hey, I’m not dead yet”...I actually started laughing while I was running.

I’ve never understood the CNN and MSNBC business model. If your goal is to make money through advertising, why would you intentionally alienate half of the potential viewers?

Most news organizations are part of larger entities that are heavily regulated. It pays to be a mouthpiece for Big Government even if you lose viewers.

I’ve never understood the CNN and MSNBC business model.

As long as a social-democratic government (which is what we are becoming) has the power to pick winners and losers in the marketplace, the power to shape public opinion is a very profitable enterprise.

They should get a clue—people don’t like being lied to, 24-7.

That’s why their Dear Leader’s approval rating is down to 37%.

Is there a law that CNN must be on every airport and public space television monitor?

I was watching them report on the Lara Logan story and, despite the breathless delivery, it still seemed dull.

Yeah, kinda what I meant. Anything for eyeballs and low production costs.

Stashed wealth can evaporate quickly, given their lifestyles. The old ones will be fine, but the younger moguls/stars might actually have to sell toys and mansions into a falling market. Plenty of examples of *stars* spending their later years in trailer parks.

I don’t know much about film production, but I believe the tech has become cheap enough (like that for music)to democratize the craft. I’d actually like to see more sophisticated indie films. I’ve been reading indie fiction for a couple of years and some of it is quite good.
