Quite possibly a Ukranian spring. They play for keeps over there. I can’t remember his name but one of their candidates for President was poisoned some years back.

Toward Europe and away from Putin’s yoke.

They would just be changing yokes.

Is Putin’s yoke any less onerous than Brussels?

But it’s a matter of degrees for the respective yokes. Anyway you slice it, however, their goose is cooked.

Obvious Putin’s got this guy by the balls. Let’s see who squeezes harder: Putin or the Ukranians.

The Ukraine is in a Polish type position between two powers. They can have a beneficial trade agreement with the EU without being part of the EU. But they have indeed caved on internal issues like the death penalty just to please the West.
The problem is that the top opposition leader is in prison from trumped-up charges (Yulia Timoshenko) while the Prez deserves to be in prison (Victor Yanukovich) for genuine corruption. Long ago he was in prison for rape and theft.

His name is Victor Yushchenko and he was not poisoned by Ukrainians but by Russians. He is still a player today but permanently disfigured.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Putin is behind these “protests.”

The protesters are screaming for Ukraine to follow the EU. Putin wants exactly the opposite. That would be like finding out Ted Cruz was the secret sponsor of the occupy protests.

Well, Putin’s positively Machiavellian— and IMO a crueler master/less desirable than the soft tyranny of a meddlesome European bureaucracy— and lately feeling his oats that his only foil has receded from the world stage.
