California Democrats brace for low 2014 turnout
SFGate.com ^ | 12/3/13 | Joe Garafoli

Just because California Democrats hold every statewide office and a supermajority in the Legislature doesn't mean they're not worried about 2014.

Some Democratic insiders fret that, essentially, life may be too good for the party right now. Their lurking fear: Without a high-profile presidential election or a big-name Republican challenger lined up yet against Gov. Jerry Brown, Democratic voters won't be interested enough to cast ballots in November. If that happens, the GOP could pick off a few seats in the Legislature, wrecking the Democrats' two-thirds majority and damaging Brown's ability to move his agenda.

Adding to Democratic insiders' anxiety is that social and religious conservatives are close to qualifying a ballot measure to overturn a new law that grants rights to transgender students. That could boost GOP turnout. And if the rollout of the Affordable Care Act, President Obama's signature health care law, continues to stumble, that could bring a few more Republicans to the polls.

While the rest of California may not tune in to the election until weeks before residents cast ballots, the political class thinks about this kind of stuff now - a year before election day - because this is the time when campaigns are formed, major donors are solicited and ballot measures are circulated. 'Concern out there'

"Definitely I think there's a concern out there," said Ben Tulchin, a Democratic pollster in San Francisco who takes regular surveys on statewide and national issues. "In a low-turnout election, those factors could be enough to shift the balance."

Hey, what could possibly go wrong, Joe? Turn-out?

The CA GoP is a stagnant pile of warmed over Dem.

Turn-out will likely be even lower if they run a bunch of RINOs and moderates.

Kalifornians keep making the same STUPID choices every election, low turnout or not, they will continue to make the same mistakes.

Make it a very pure experiment. The GOP should just leave the state, a la the Israelis and Gaza. We can check back on the Californians in 10 years.

Disapproval of Obama rises in state, (Field) poll shows
Carla Marinucci

http://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Disapproval-of-Obama-rises-in-state-poll-shows-5029736.php

While a bare majority of voters in solidly blue California still approve of President Obama’s job performance, dissatisfaction with his leadership on key issues has increased significantly - especially among those who were once solidly part of his base, according to a Field Poll released Tuesday.

And in a finding that could affect Obama’s fellow Democrats as they head into the 2014 elections, the poll shows that just one-third of California voters surveyed say the country is moving in the right direction, while 55 percent believe it is “seriously off on the wrong track.” That’s a significant decline from February, when 48 percent said the country was on the right track and 44 percent said it was on the wrong track.

The 51 percent of respondents who approve of Obama’s performance represents an 11-point slide in the Field Poll since the start of his second term. His disapproval rating stands at 43 percent.

Among those souring on the president are groups that have been among his strongest supporters, the poll showed - Latinos (a 16-point jump in disapproval), union households (18 points) and women (13 points).

Even among Democrats overall, Obama’s negative rating is 18 percent, double the total in July.

Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll, said the downward trend is cause for concern for the Democratic Party as it looks toward the 2014 midterm elections.

“The GOP HAS left California.”

I mean ALL of them. As in the citizens, too.

While it would be fun to watch those productive leftists try to support the millions of parasites they’ve invited into this state, having been here my entire life I’ve always thought it should be they and the welfare slugs who’ve migrated in for the bennies who leave.

Do we have any candidates for California assembly and other reps running?

We bested them in Bakersfield for a runoff in June and eecked one out.

Before you count the votes prematurely, better check every basement, closet, car trunk, etc. There will be lots of votes just waiting to see daylight.

Republicans need to mount a full court press on the CA Democratic Machine (that includes everywhere), they also need to use whatever legislative maneuvers to block/reverse liberal legislation.

Rove killed the GOP in California by foisting a new party chairman and Arnold Terminator on them.

And I’m sure he’ll step in and do it again, if necessary.

“Without.....a big name Republican challenger lined up yet” the Democrats won’t vote? They turn out to vote because they want to vote against Republicans, but not to vote for Democrats? Wow. That’s how 10 year olds vote.

Thanks NormsRevenge.

Repeat after me, it has nothing to do with Obamacare. /s

The Demwit supermajority is only two seats in the Senate, which is why they didn't expel those future jailbirds.

Democrats will do voter fraud in close races... real turn out doesn’t matter to democrats - names on the rolls matter. My guess is the FBI will be watching...
