**Artist Showcase**

Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) is an American progressive metal band founded in 1993 by producer, composer, and lyricist Paul O'Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli (both members of Savatage) and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team. Since then, TSO sold nearly 8 million concert tickets and 8.5 million albums. The band's musical style incorporates classical, orchestral, symphonic, and progressive elements into hard rock and heavy metal. The band is most famous for their series of rock operas: Christmas Eve and Other Stories, The Christmas Attic, Beethoven's Last Night, The Lost Christmas Eve (the final installment of their Christmas trilogy), and their two-disc magnum opus Night Castle. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is also known for their extensive charity work and elaborate concerts, which are complete with a full orchestra, a massive light show, lasers, dozens of pyrotechnics, moving trusses, video screens, and other effects that are synchronized to the music.

Both Billboard Magazine and Pollstar have ranked them as one of the top ten ticket-selling bands in the first decade of the new millennium.

Enjoy the variety of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays provide throughout the thread. Please ping any DJ with your requests for the Troops!

By 1820, when Beethoven was 50, the legal battle over custody of his nephew came to an end. This wasn’t good for the nephew, who found his uncle to be a very jealous and possessive guardian. Karl was to attempt suicide because of this.

But the floodgates opened in Lou Beethoven’s output, and his late style was becoming more apparent. Almost totally deaf, he was hearing the sounds and voices of music only in his head, which actually liberated him.

Lou had given up on romancing women, replacing them with quick visits to the whorehouses of Vienna. Some of his friends offered their wives for the night, and Lou took up the offers. Today the women would wear T-shirts proudly inscribed “I slept with Beethoven”, but back then things were handled more discreetly.

The Piano Sonata in E, Op. 109, was finished in 1820, and Lou dedicated it to Max Brentano, whose wife Toni had been Beethoven’s Immortal Beloved. Forget the movie of that title; the writers failed to read Maynard Solomon’s biography of Beethoven on that matter. Ken Russell’s novella Beethoven Confidential handles the subject accurately and with humor. This was a bittersweet dedication, for Lou and Toni rarely corresponded by letter anymore.

If you want to understand this piece, I have a lecture by Andras Schiff.

Andras Schiff explains Opus 109

This is the late Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau from 1977.

Good Evening, Mayor! Thanks very much for this evening's Daily Bread. The passage from Matthew Chapter 4 resonates deeply with me.

"For Behold, Darkness Shall Cover The Earth."

"The People That Walked In Darkness."

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

I highly recommend the Christmas Show that TSO puts on. I saw them in Tucson 4-5 years ago (birthday present) and they were outstanding.
