THE REAL MEANING OF PEACE
There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them. One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for the peaceful towering mountains all around. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace. The other picture had mountains too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell, and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest ...perfect peace. Which picture do you think won the prize? The King chose the second picture. Do you know why? "Because," explained the King, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

Serious Fear
December 8, 2013
Read: Luke 2:8-20
After weeks of preparation by the childrens choir, the night had finally arrived for our annual Christmas musical in 1983. The costumed children began filing into the auditorium when suddenly we heard a ruckus at the back door. My wife and I turned to look and saw our own little Matt. Sobbing loudly and with a look of sheer terror on his face, he had a death grip on the door handle. He refused to enter the auditorium. After much negotiating, the director finally told him he didnt have to go on stage. Instead, Matt sat with us, and soon his fears began to subside.
Although we dont usually identify Christmas as a time of fear, there was plenty of it on the night of Christs birth. Luke says, Behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid (Luke 2:9). The sight of the angelic messenger was more than the shepherds could process. But the angel reassured them: Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people (v.10).
In a world full of fear, we need to remember that Jesus came to be the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6). We desperately need His peace. As we look to Him, He will ease our fears and calm our hearts.
Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings. Wesley
God incarnate is the end of fear. F. B. Meyer

A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
We are doing well. I’m sitting in the parking lot as my Mom gets her hair cut a couple weeks past normal. Inside lights later tonight, I think.

THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
"St. John the Baptist Baptizes the People" Nicholas Poussin (1594-1665)
"On Jordan's Bank" Choir of King's College Cambridge (Click)
"THE BEGINNING of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost."

See you on the flip side, Kathy! I see The Freak State is at the same temperature as Anchorage at the moment. We were at about 42 this afternoon and are going into the 20's overnight. We're looking for a wintry mix starting tomorrow. It should be an interesting Monday. :)

We are safely home, AND I just finished scraping all the ice off the deck. Perfect time to do it as it’s been a tad above freezing all day. Just a bit of chipping with my snow shovel. Done!
Be really careful....Mondays are never good with weather changes.
Any progress in the basement?

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.
