Cruz Walks Out on Castro Speech at Memorial Service for Mandela
National Review Online ^ | 12/10/13 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 12/10/2013 6:28:07 PM PST by bigtoona

Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) walked out of the memorial service for Nelson Mandela when Cuban “president” Raúl Castro began speaking.

“Senator Cruz very much hopes that Castro learns the lessons of Nelson Mandela,” said Sean Rushton, Cruz’s communications director. “For decades, Castro has wrongly imprisoned and tortured countless innocents. Just as Mandela was released after 27 years in prison, Castro should finally release his political prisoners; he should hold free elections, and once and for all set the Cuban people free.”

Earlier in the day, President Obama shook hands with Castro.

Yes but did either of the Castros necklace people? Why the heck did Cruz go over there in the first place? He should have stayed home.

Cruz just gave Obama another lesson in leadership. This time it was on the world stage! So sweet.

"Cruz played it perfectly, went and paid respects, then showed the world that Bambi's handshake was bogus."

I see it in the same light, especially considering the very measured statement Sen. Cruz issued regarding the life of Nelson Mandela.

The magnitude of the distinction drawn can not be overstated between Obama's handshake with Castro and Cruz walking out on the speech. Considering the world is focused on this memorial event, the unmistakable message delivered to a worldwide audience couldn't have been scripted any better for maximum impact. In this one act, Cruz showed the world that America still opposes tyranny and Obama does not speak for all of us.

Maybe he went just so he could walk out on a Castro speech! What other time would he be able to do that? Never! Must have made his father proud and made headlines worldwide compared to Odumbo shaking Castro's hand.

Cruz did the right thing here.

Walking out, yes. But why did he even go. A quiet ‘no thanks I have to organize my sock drawer ‘ type of answer from a junior aide would have spoken eloquently as to Cruz's contempt for this commie wet dream fest. When are white people going to stop being Mau-Maued by the blackamoors? Why do we have so little spine about this cr-p?

Walking out, yes. But why did he even go.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was so he could walk out on Castro.

I personally don’t care one way or the other about Nelson Mandella. He is gone from this earth now and the ultimate judgment for him has already happened. For the Bible says - it is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment Maybe he made peace with God - maybe he didn’t. I have no way of knowing that.

And others won't vote for him because Karl Rove will tell them he's "not electable".

Then Karl will offer up a milquetoast GOP establishment type who's "the most conservative candidate who can win".

That’s the kind of lack of faith that will lead to failure against the liberals.

He is what he is. God says we’re under a curse if we put our faith in other men, don’t forget (Jeremiah 17:5).

I do hope that at least this changes Cruz’s viewpoint about Mandela, since “Madiba” and Castro were/are two (red) peas in a pod.

I had some nagging doubts—I’ve been fooled before—until the press started attacking him. Now I have confidence in him. If they don’t like him, he’s good for the country.

Huzzah for Cuba Libre. What’s he even doing for America there at the funeral of a foreign communist terrorist?

So thankful you called out the fraud. I’m so tired of the new meme ‘he’s just not showing he’s perfect, willing to do exactly what we want’..blah blah...it’s exhausting!

I truly wish just ONE person on this site would go run for office, and let us know how easy it is, how there is nothing to it, just doing the right thing, all the time. It’s just not possible and adults here should know better.

Ted Cruz has shown incredible strength.

Huh?? Ted Cruz opposes Obamacare. OF COURSE he should take something else if he’s eligible for it....it would be hypocritical of him to sign up for Obamacare.
