Prosecutors were pushing for 16-year-old Ethan Couch to spend 20 years in prison. However, State District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced Couch to a decade of probation.
There was no debate about who was behind the wheel last June, when Couch plowed into and killed four people. Couch has admitted to being the driver, and court records show his blood alcohol level was .24 at the time of the crash, three times the legal limit for an adult. Prosecutors also presented evidence that Couch and some friends stole beer from a Burleson Walmart on June 15, the night of the crash. After consuming the alcohol, Couch and seven others got back into his pickup to go to another store. During the trip, he hit four pedestrians, killing them. Two teens riding in Couchs pickup were thrown from the truck and severely injured.
Couchs attorneys argued his parents were responsible for the teens actions that night because of the way he had been raised. Defense attorneys put a psychologist on the stand who testified Couch was a product of wealth and got whatever he wanted. The psychologist also testified the teen was allowed to drink at a very young age and began driving at 13 years old. Defense attorneys argued Couch needed treatment, not jail and suggested a facility that costs almost half a million dollars a year...

Probation for this punk should consist of community service that is so hard as to make him wish he’d gone to prison. I don’t even know what it would be.
If American children were allowed and encouraged to experience beer and wine from day one of their lives on this earth as they do in Europe, things like this might not happen.
I don't quite understand how the psychologist could (and was allowed to) testify to these alleged circumstances. Was the psychologist right there with the perp when all this was supposed to have taken place? Can you say "hearsay"? The judge must be crazy/utterly corrupt.
The four killed were a stranded motorist, a youth paster who'd stop to help the motorist, along with two good samaritans who'd also stopped to help.
A comment at one of the other articles I read said this kid had a previous DWI...not sure if that's true, or not. Makes this all the more sad and maddening, if true.
Not really. Plenty of young drunk drivers killing themselves and others in Europe as well.
And just look at a few of the “youth binge drinking” articles the UK Daily Mail regularly posts on its website...yikes! Permissiveness does not equal responsibility.

The very best justice money can buy. It’s Texas; was he possibly a star football player?
Not me. He killed four people and shattered their families by his own admitted neglegence. He should be in prison for life X 4.
The families should wait a while, then hire a professional to take care of the problem.
Judge did well enough to be able to retire right after making this ruling.
If you are rich enough to buy (in)justice, you don’t need to hide assets.
Hopefully he will continue to drive and use a concrete light pole or a freight train for brakes at about 90 miles an hour.
No, but Ole Ted has been off the sauce for some time now.
I hope someone kills this piece of garbage
We expect drunk people to exercise good judgment, yet of course judgment is the first thing to be diminished by alcohol. Why are we still surprised?
I'm sure that being forced to live here instead of at home will impress upon him the wrongness of his actions.
I want to know why the OUTRAGED MSM wasn’t so outraged over Ted Kennedy getting a free pass on Chappaquiddick.
