Wow!! Looks like thousands of centimeters to me. Whatever that is. LOL.
Centimeters are French metric inches. It takes two and a half of the silly things to make an ordinary, regular inch; conversely, if you need this many fingers to do arithmetic, the French metric system has an advantage.
By definition an inch is exactly 2.54 cm, not “about”.
When you talk to those who aren’t mathematically or scientifically inclined you need to throw in a fudge factor or two. LOL!
EXACTLY puts so much pressure on people these days. You throw in an “around” or an “about” into the mix and people can start to relax a little.
We have grammar and spelling Nazis on this website. Do we really need the math and science Nazis, too? LOL!
Sorry - I’m a scientist. And since my grammar sucks and I can’t spell, I need to cling to something...
Thank you! I didn’t expect a reply, and really wanted to know. That was even more than I’m snowed in with here.
Looks like a giant in a car lot.
The reverse of “about” are the people who label containers. “1 pound or 453.59 g” as if the coffee in a jar is going to be measured to the nearest 0.01 grams. Or “We had 8 inches of snow or 20.3 cm.”
Thanks Jack Hydrazine.
I was stationed in Spain from 68-72...I had leave Christmas 69, so several of us decided to go to Rome..That year it snowed (lightly) in Rome for the first time in almost 100 years. I vividly recall seeing tens of thousands of Italians everywhere standing outside, looking up childlike at the sky..and attempting to taste the snowflakes as they fell..

Take a look at this story.

The snow follows similar flurries across Egypt, where snow fell in Cairo for the first time in 112 years.

Jerusalem-based meteorologist Boaz Nechemia told AFP that between 45 and 60cm of snow had accumulated in the Holy City by Saturday.
We havent had such a snowfall in some 70 years, he said, noting that a metre of snow fell on Jerusalem in 1920.
