“our boss is recording phone conversations”

Why would someone want to do this?

This has been going on for decades. The government as about nothing but control. Google "Promis", "Clipper chip", "Crypto AG".

Go to John Young's Cryptome site, and just start reading. We have been under the magnifying glass for a long time. OUr feral government is more out of control than just about anyone is willing to admit. It's not a democrat thing. It's not a republican thing. These people are serious about removing any tiny shred of privacy you and I may have. Both parties are neck deep in the muck.

I've been on this site a long time, and I have to wonder how much outrage you'd see here if a republican were president. From past history, I'd have to say "not much", and it's a shame. They are using the illusion of opposing parties to strip us of everything we claim to hold dear.

More outrage now than ever. Faith is the Republican party is pretty low. Lowest I have every seen it here.

I’ve been under surveillance before.

About 90% of what they do is just simple intimidation to let you know they are more powerful than you and you can do nothing to stop them.

Probably true. You'd have a much higher proportion of them calling anyone pointing things out 'tinfoilers' or the like. That kind of crap just doesn't fly with me anymore. It just shows off their ignorance.  Attributing this to just democrats is similarly stupid and ignorant.

The FBI used to use a system called CARNIVORE, but public outrage demanded that they stop. They didn’t, just divided it into subsystems, far more powerful than CARNIVORE, such as NarusInsight.

They also use CALEA, the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (1994), which creates back doors in communications and Internet companies, allowing federal agencies to monitor all telephone, broadband internet, and VoIP traffic in real-time.

There is also ADVISE (Analysis, Dissemination, Visualization, Insight, and Semantic Enhancement), a massive data mining system run by the DHS.

Then there is the NSA’s PRISM, a government codename for a data collection effort known officially as US-984XN.

There are also what are called 72 (known) Homeland Security “Fusion Centers” in the US. They are used for information sharing at the federal level between agencies.

So “Mi data es Su data”.

all I know is that a friends son got a job with this bunch after college and after working a year or two, could afford a 5 bedroom house in the Seattle area.

Yes, the SIS (Secret Intelligence Service) formerly the MI6 has a way of making people disappear. So does the US CIA for that matter.

Why would someone want to do this?

He is a paranoid little weirdo. I seriously think he's got mental health problems. Recording phone calls is the tip of the iceburg of his odd behavior.

One of my co-workers grew up in a communist country. He’s got some interesting insight on the situation.
