John McCain tells Ukraine protesters: 'We are here to support your just cause'

Senator John McCain on Sunday told thousands of Ukrainian protesters camped on Kiev's main square that Ukraine's destiny lay in Europe and that it would make Europe better.

"Ukraine will make Europe better and Europe will make Ukraine better," he said to crowds protesting against President Viktor Yanukovich's U-turn in trade policy away from Europe towards Russia.

"We are here to support your just cause, the sovereign right of Ukraine to determine its own destiny freely and independently. And the destiny you seek lies in Europe," said McCain, a leading Republican voice on US foreign policy.

McCain is in Ukraine with a Connecticut Democrat, Senator Chris Murphy.

Speaking to CNN on Sunday, McCain said: “What we're trying to do is try to bring about a peaceful transition here, that would stop the violence and give the Ukrainian people what they unfortunately have not had, with different revolutions that have taken place – a real society. This is a grassroots revolution here – it's been peaceful except when the government tried to crack down on them, and the government hasn't tried that since.

Being an European I am amazed Ukraine wants to leave the Russian dictatorship to join the european dictatorship. Freedom in Europe is being eroded every day by non elected tyrants in Bruxelles. Every day laws are coming out of Bruxelles forbiding one thing or the other. Were I to write this in a european newspaper I would be censored and maybe reported to the police, I am not joking. STASI was a soft touch compare to the EU thought police.

Gee, McCain, can’t you speak up to restore individual liberty in USA or have you decided that’s a lost cause now that you “enabled” Obana’s election?

"McCain is in Ukraine with a Connecticut Democrat"

Every time you hear of McCain, he's with some Democrat. He surrounds himself with Democrats. And he's been nothing but stabbed in the back by them unless he's actually helping them in their agenda. He's got to be a total idiot.

Fresh from posing for photos with terrorists in Syria...

Yup. The "freedom fighters" are abandoning the country. He, the administration, and the elites of both parties wanted us to go to war in Syria for a phony cause. Why isn't anybody asking about that?

McCain should also be investigated for being on the take from Georgian mobsters. He's not gonna' rest until we are at war with Russia.

Our Senators suck. Name 10 good ones.

McStain is traveling with rookie Democrat Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut, whom he is apparently grooming to replace his old BFF Joe Leiberman.

The United States should be sympathetic to the Ukrainians, but it should not be seen as trying to snub the Russians in the process. We wouldn’t like Russia trying to wrest American nations from our trade groups.

Why can’t the Ukrainians trade with both Russia and the E. U.? Makes a lot of sense. It wouldn’t necessarily have to be confrontational either.

As usual, John McCain jumps in with both feet having left his brain at home. Arizona, once again your stupidity pays off with dividends.

This guy does more damage to our nation than any three Democrats, with the exception of Obama. But then again, McCain is doing his damnedest to surpass him too.

Correct! Actual dictatorships are far more preferable than the benign type. Bonus if the population gets the dictatorship they don’t actually want.

Because the Russians don't want it that way.

George Steinbrenner was quoted as saying he supported Yankee manager Billy Martin 100% - then he fired him. Twice.
