Well, they did have intact families before LBJ.
No doubt, LBJ’s great society did a great deal of damage to the black family unit with massive welfare dependance being the direct result.
Yup!
It was not the clarification of the legal system that established civil rights for the Americans of African descent that brought about great unhappiness among the newly empowered, it was the systematic stripping away of their economic freedom and the wrecking of the moral compasses that had guided these same grandchildren of former slaves for generations before. One kind of economic chains were simply exchanged for another, and the bondage took on a much more pernicious form, in which failure was encouraged and even celebrated, and a phony kind of “self-esteem” was made to be the ideal to strive for. The downtrodden became their own prison guards, making it some kind of misplaced “race pride” that eschewed the adoption of the ways of success.
A matter of incidental arithmetic - the size of the current Federal debt, some $17 TRILLION, is almost the same amount spent upon all the “Great Society” programs since they were instituted by LBJ and a Democrat majority in the wake of the death of John F. Kennedy.
JFK was just about the last of the fiscally conservative Democrats to serve in the White House. Not that there had ever been that many before.
and it’s tough to imagine them being any angrier than they are in these times.
