Education gap for Latinos persists
Monterey Herald ^ | 12/22/2013 | MARTHA MENDOZA

As Latinos surpass white Californians in population next year, the state becomes a potential model for the rest of the country, which is going through a slower but similar demographic shift.

But when it comes to how California is educating students of color, many say the state serves as a model of what not to do.

In California, 52 percent of the state's 6 million school children are Latino, just 26 percent are white. And Latino students in general are getting worse educations than their white peers. Their class sizes are larger, course offerings are fewer and funding is lower.

The consequence is obvious: lower achievement.

"Ultimately we will face a crisis where a majority of the U.S. population will be economically disadvantaged, which will reduce their spending power and contribution to taxes and Social Security, impacting all segments of society and our country's economic health."

Thank you open border crowd.

"As Latinos surpass white Californians in population next year…"

Shouldn't that be "Illegal Latinos surpass…."?

"Ultimately we will face a crisis where a majority of the U.S. population will be economically disadvantaged..."

Poor phrasing. When the majority is poorer, that becomes the new normal, and pulls everyone else down with it.

This is by design, children of the ruling class will get good private educations; those of us in the intended slave class must be kept ignorant. The objective is to eliminate the middle class and upward economic mobility. I do believe the model they are looking for comes from the dark ages.

What makes many minorities vulnerable to educational dumbing down is language. Far too many blacks don’t want to learn proper English and far too many Hispanics don’t want to learn English at all.

No matter how you work it, Latino or Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race. Latinos or Hispanics can be of any race.

Anytime you read an article that tries to equate an ethnicity with a race, you can be assured there is either an agenda or a stupid writer (or both).

For better or worse, these kids are a snapshot of the furure of CA. Their poor educational performance means few of them will be high wage earners and thus, will take more from the pot than they contribute. The only good news as we morph into third worldism, is that CA won't have a tax base to pay for their excessive regulations.

I don’t see it reducing their spending power. We live in the central valley which is inundated with illegals, Mexicans, and their kids. Every store I have been to lately has been rather empty except one. We have a Mexican market here that I order tamales from for a Christmas Eve gathering. I went to pick them up yesterday and you couldn’t get down the aisles of the store they were so busy. Told my friend.....guess with all those ebt cards they are eating well.

Why does the gap persist? Are Latinos incapable of learning as well as whites? Is the state of CA failing to invest in the education of Latino students? Are Latino students denied a public education? Does Latino culture in some way work against the education of students? Are Latino students studying as hard as, say, Asian students? Why do Asian students do well and Latino students do poorly?

THIS is BS
“And Latino students in general are getting worse educations than their white peers. Their class sizes are larger, course offerings are fewer and funding is lower. “
Unless calif segregated the schools so “whites” go to completely different schools

AND as has been pointed out here latino is NOT a race.

what a BS article

I submit it is not the state who is at fault. They have done everything on their part.

There is another party involved - look to them for the reason for failure.

I know this might sound very basic. But it would help if everyone had a job. It would help if people got married first before having children. It would help if so many teenagers weren’t getting pregnant, taking drugs, and destroying their bodies with ghastly tattooes and piercings. It would help if there was a work ethic. It would help if the teachers unions did not exist. It would help if people lived within their means. It would REALLY help if they allowed oil drilling in CA especially in the Monterey shale area....that would solve a lot of the state’s revenue problems.

It's amazing that Liberals all think that the races are equal. They believe that all are equally smart, and the only reason why some races score below others is because the White man does not throw enough education money at them.

When the economy completely collapses in the near future, due to the insane economic policies of the Liberals, there won't be any money for education.

Without governmental interference, the "Garbage will sink to the bottom, while the cream will rise to the top," and there won't be a damn thing the Liberals can do about it.

California has decided it wanted the job of providing social-services and welfare to Mexico’s lowest classes. And the ruling elites of socialist/crony-capitalist Mexico are more than happy to send these people to California.

And people wonder why “educational achievement” is lower.....

Hispanics are a large and diverse group, Latinos are a large but indentifiable group. The majority of Hispanics in CA are Latino and as a group (not a race) they do not excell in the area of education. Due to their large percentage of the CA population, this is not good regardless of why they underperform. This is an unsustainable trend.

Pick any school district and you will find students who are successful and those that are not. This completely negates the money meme as the expenditure per student within a particular school district is the same for every student.

So if money spent per student is not an issue, why the disparity of results within a single school district?

Overwhelmingly, the students that do well come from a two parent household. Overwhelmingly, the students that do not do well come from a single parent household.

This means that the solution for poor school performance is not spending more money per student, but finding ways to convince young people to not have kids until they are married and once they are married, to stay that way for as long as possible.

Be we all know what happened when Bill Cosby said this same thing.

Socialist nirvana! It’s what happens when people are conditioned to rely upon government for their every need. Government will ensure that you remain poor, ignorant and dependent, yet retain that sense of entitlement!

What else can the schools do?
They have done far more than they should and wasted far more taxpayer money that is warranted

Until the parents step up not much can be done.
How likely is that to happen?

This is crap. There is not a single person of my age (79) who could not, if given the power, correct what is screwed up with what is supposed to pass as “EDUCATION” in today’s USA.
For 200 years the American education system turned out children who grew up to create, from scratch, the greatest country in the history of mankind.
Look at what American education is doing now. Disgraceful isn’t it?

It is intentional....Sanger and the John Dewey types hated minorities and actually wanted to kill them. There is a NWO agenda-—and it is to reduce man to godless animal (marxism).

You destroy Knowledge and Wisdom and cultivate base instincts. All “education” especially in the inner cities was destroyed by Dewey and the Marxists like Dr. Counts and Dr. Ruggs who wrote the curricula. and it is all dripping with Wundtian Psychology (to program). Destroy Reason. (Leipzig Connection).

Prior to that, education could take really poor kids and create giants—kids with the intellect of a Ted Cruz or a Thomas Sowell. Why-—because true education is teaching Virtue (Classical Education).

(Virtue is excellence/Wisdom/Courage/Temperance and Fortitude). Socrates stated (and Founders knew) that the only purpose of Education was to teach Virtue.)

Virtue was targeted with Curricula by Gramsci and Lukacs to destroy Virtue in children started in the 30s. By the 60s—Gramsci’s techniques were fully implemented at the Teacher’s College in Chicago and Columbia-——we are being herded and manipulated-—kids are being programmed and filled with misinformation and sexualized to destroy the ability to use Reason and Logic and be moral.

It is intentional for the NWO-—they need addicted slaves/masses-—not emotionally moral, strong intellectuals like a Ted Cruz. Imagine a world with a bunch of Ted Cruzes running around (they drug those boys now in public schools)......v. barney franks who are more interested in money and power over young men....and could care less about what happens in the wake of their evil practices.

Virtue is necessary for Freedom. Schools teach “Pride” in evil and dysfunction—destroying Logic and Reason and Christian Ethics. It is intentional....people like Ben Carson and Phil Robertson are very dangerous to the elites who want slaves only. Wisdom is the ability to discern between Good and Evil (Cicero) and Truth is erased in the minds of children. Moral Relativism has been taught since the 30s-—and blatantly since the 60s to erase Objective Truth.

Sex Ed is their greates tool to warp kids and destroy innocence and their natural sexual identity formation-—easiest way to destroy Reason is to incite passions......http://centurean2.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/radical-georg-lukacs_to-achieve-the-communist-utopia-lukacs-launched-a-graphical-radical-sex-education-program-promoting-free-love-and-promiscuity/

Mexican kids who have loving father and mother who take interest in their children’s “education” can be brilliant-—I’ve seen first generation Mexican kids who were very intelligent-—if read to and exposed to high culture and not left to public school indoctrination. Catholic schools are the same now as the public schools unless they have retrieved Classical Education which could educate everyone. Literacy rate for Blacks prior to John Dewey was 90% even with Jim crow.
