Your food's in the printer...machine lets you create & eat your meal from freshly squeezed syringes

First there were meals we had to make all by ourselves.

Then 'ready made' meals came along, making life that much easier.

But what if you could just print your dinner using food 'ink'?

Scientists at Cornell University in New York are developing a commercially viable 3D food printer which uses raw ingredients inside syringes.

Part of their Fab@home project, an open-source collaboration, you just put the raw food 'inks' into the machine, load the recipe (or 'FabApp') - and press the button.

The design takes the form of a set of syringes that deposit food inks line by line, and layer by layer, according to an electronic blueprint.

The blueprint states exactly what materials go where and are drawn up using traditional engineering computer-aided design (CAD) software.

And the implications of the technology could be far-reaching.

People wishing to emulate the likes of Gordon Ramsay could just download his recipe files - and doctors could prepare special dishes to suit their patients' dietary needs.

Project leader Dr Jeffrey Ian Lipton said: 'FabApps would allow you to tweak your food's taste, texture and other properties.'(continued)

I spent all those years learning how to cook, and then cooking for a large family.

Now they tell me it’s out of style.

Actually, I think I’ll pass on that syringe stuff and keep doing what I’ve been doing.

The line goes:

This ... is ... my..CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH ... and my Cup of COFFEE!! I WANT THEM OFF MY SHIP! GET THEM OFF MY SHIP, NOW!

(henceforth, from that airing, any one who has an affinity for Star Trek TOS (only), decides to have “A Captain Kirk Lunch”, i.e., chicken salad sandwich and coffee, chips optionals.)

Don't let a nice Kitchen go to waste.

I'm worried just WHAT would be in the "food ink"

In one of the "Iron Chef" epis, one challenger was all techie with the food, including taking a color image of his team, then printing it on edible rice paper for use in one of the dishes.

Didn't the NYSlimes go to soy-based ink back in the 1980s?

I remember that!

I miss the Original IC, way better than the new one.

The bizzare foods and the voice over for the commentary (like watching the old Godzilla movies)

All the newsprint did.

Still doesn’t make Me want to rat the paper...

Not in this lifetime.
