Drunk Mormons accused of random bashing of man on Surfers Paradise street [Lds play knockout 'game']

TWO Mormons on the Gold Coast for a church camp stand accused of a shocking attack that left a passing stranger in a coma.

Amanaki Kaufusi, 21, and Onesi Taufui, 18, yesterday faced Southport Magistrates Court charged with grievous bodily harm over a violent attack on a tourist in Surfers Paradise.

Hundreds of Mormons have gathered on the Gold Coast for a Latter-day Saints conference at Tallebudgera.

But as their friends listened to the teachings of church leaders, Kaufusi and Taufui, both from western Sydney, headed to the bright lights of Sin City for a night on the town.

The court was told the pair were walking along Cavill Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning when an intoxicated Kaufusi allegedly yelled: "I just want to hit someone. I will hit the next person I see."

Witnesses reported Kaufusi "showing an intent to fight others for no reason" and told him he was drunk.

Kaufusi allegedly responded in Tongan: "You want to see drunk, this is drunk."

Police said he king-hit 24-year-old tourist Onyekachi Okoye, who collapsed unconscious to the footpath.

Both men then allegedly stomped on the victim's head before laughing and walking off. When their Mormon friends pleaded with them to turn themselves in after Mr Okoye was rushed to hospital, the duo allegedly tried to flee Surfers Paradise in a taxi to return to the Tallebudgera camp.

Mr Okoye, from Glendale near Newcastle, later woke from a coma and has been transferred out of intensive care at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

He suffered a broken jaw but no brain damage.

Magistrate Brian Kilmartin refused bail due to the seriousness of the allegations. They will face court again on February 26.

Outside court, duty lawyer Mal Chalmers said his clients were in "a state of shock". "(Kaufusi) couldn't remember anything about the event," he said.

Latter-day Saints State President Asa Smibert said the men were not pre-registered at the camp and may have been visiting friends.

"Violence of any sort in the community is a tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals involved."

Sure I agree they were lowlifes. I didn’t think I cast any aspersions on anybody I responded to?

Nothing in the story backs up the headline that they were Mormon.

Nothing?

Anyone can do a search and find your statement is incorrect.

Nothing in the story backs up the headline that they were Mormon.

Upon further review... you are correct. The only thing the article asserts is that they had "Mormon friends" who pleaded with them to turn themselves in.

The press reports things a certain way, so people get a certain impression. So in the first paragraph they report the assault, and in the second they report the Mormon conference. Pretty tricky.

Apparently the mormon stake president “assumed” they were mormon as well. Unusual laziness for a mormon leader guarding the respectability of his cult.

You know, it’s just barely possible they actually were mormon members. Just not long enough to become the perfect people we all know mormons to be.

Dude, from looking at your recent posts, it appears your personal JIHAD is directed at Mormons.

Then you need to actually READ what is posted; just not LOOK at it.

The war is against MormonISM - a demonic heresy.
******************************************************************
Well, you conduct YOUR Jihad against the Mormons and I’ll conduct MY Jihad against Islam and the Democrap progressives and the GOPe.

Come now. Amanaki Kaufusi and Onesi Taufui says “white guys” just like if the two attackers had been Biff Wheatston and Stafford Worthington. Pffft!

Thanks for proving my point. You had to use a DIFFERENT story to find the facts. I was referring to the POSTED story, which has as the only evidence of them being Mormon that someone said they were NOT registered at the conference. Other than that the only fact is that they were in the same area as many Mormons. That makes them Mormon? I’m no fan of the Mormon religion but I do like facts. I guess I know why our media play loose with the facts also. Prejudiced people suck up the stuff they want to hear and could care less whether it’s true or not.

Do you take headlines from the New York Times and other liberal rags at face value and don’t bother to read the text to see where the distortions lie?

You did a good job of spotlighting the judgmental punk

Their cult continually shows the audience how ugly so-called christians can be.

Here's the only quote in the story from the president:

Latter-day Saints State President Asa Smibert said the men were not pre-registered at the camp and may have been visiting friends.

I guess my nose is much bigger than I realized because I just can't see where he says they were Mormons. Please enlighten me.

Yeah; I'm kinda picky that way; wanting to hear more EVIDENCE before announcing my judgement of the case.
