Male friendship is formed around jokes, favors, and associations -- all things under attack.
I got a telephone in my room right when “Boy Meets World” was getting big. I saw the characters chatting on the phone daily and mistook a studio cost-cutting device for how friends interacted. So I grabbed the school directory and called up my best friend at the moment, Sean.
“Hi?”
“Hey, it’s Billy”
“Okay…”
The call was over in seconds. We played full contact 500 on an asphalt driveway the next day with nary a mention of the awkward conversation. Like I said, my best friend. I never realized that the exchange made me more likely to commit suicide. At least that’s what Occidental College sociology professor Lisa Wade says in Salon’s latest men-are-doing-it-wrong column.
Wade says American men—specifically white heterosexuals—lack the intimate bonds necessary to lead fulfilling lives.
“The friendships they have, if they’re with other men, provide less emotional support and involve lower levels of self-disclosure and trust than other types of friendships,” Wade writes.
It’s an observation rooted in experience. Go to enough barbecues and you’ll notice that people tend to self-segregate: Women form circles around living room tables and discuss their feelings; men crowd around the grill, eyes locked on the meat, to discuss grilling techniques.
It wasn’t always this way, Wade argues.
Research shows that boys are just as likely as girls to disclose personal feelings to their same-sex friends and they are just as talented at being able to sense their friends’ emotional states.
But, at about age 15 to 16 — right at the same age that the suicide rate of boys increases to four times the rate of girls — boys start reporting that they don’t have friends and don’t need them.

In a previous reply, I blame the pro female “agenda” in public schools. With a vast majority of teachers, administrators and councilors being female, they have observed male behavior, collectively determined what is proper behavior and recommend “drugs” to make males compliant......IMHO

Right. That was the conclusion I drew from the article. Men are in need of a place where men can be men.
One responder had a good point on men grouping up. Thanks to the media, groups of guys getting together has lead some observers to draw a conclusion that some in this group may be “gay”, the result, fewer men getting together and becoming stereotyped.

If your pre “sexual revolution” then you could give a $h!t what the female power structure has to say, thats why older males are written off as a loss. The attack is on boys of the “sexual revolution” and the feminization of them.....

4. Golf. My husband plays with a couple of all-male groups. They’ve become good friends, and have a wonderful time.

and you brought up something I haven’t thought about in a long time. the barber shop, one of the original male hang outs. Just like most of traditional America, dead and gone or under massive attack.
But you know that is one place that could be used against women. Ain’t no woman, save a dyke, would set foot in a guys barber shop for a style. Whole system could be crashed because of a woman’s hair...lol.

My son was telling me about a conversation he had via phone/text with one of his best friends who had moved away to attend college. The friend texted, “Hey faggot.” Son had a new phone, did not recognize the friend’s number, and was a bit peeved. So he called the mystery number and immediately began blasting the person who answered. Lol. Then all was well, and they continued their normal white American heterosexual male conversation. Second son does not put up with stupidity, so he spends a lot of time on his own or playing ball with anyone who will play. I think second son is more like hubby, and they just don’t like to be around stupid people. LOL First son likes people and likes to hunt, fish, drive in mud, etc.
