If a nuclear holocaust actually happens, the federal govenment, and especially the politicians are going to be the primary targets, and the priority of the nation that nukes the U.S. will be making sure that the important leading politicians get totally vaporized.

Hmmm, that might actually be doing us a favor. It would take care of the need for term limits for a few years......

“I draw no conclusions nor make any speculation....”

Very wise. But I’ll speculate that this may simply be routine updating of national emergency supplies. That’s one thing I WOULD want our government to do. Things have shelf lives.

From this manufacturer’s frequently asked questions site:

http://www.anbex.com/pricing/faq/

I extracted the following question and answer.

“...3. How long is the shelf life of potassium iodide?
iOSAT Tablets are FDA approved for seven years and should be stored unopened in a dry environment at room temperature....”

They’re relatively inexpensive and good to have on hand for the price point. What’s the worst that can happen, a loss of fifty bucks over the long run?

How will they choose to blame conservatives for this?

“So for most people it wont help much.”

Actually, it’s the opposite. Most people, particularly in America, do NOT have enough iodine in their system. And, your thyroid does not discern between ‘good’ iodine and ‘bad’ iodine so if you load up on iodide (but preferably an iodine/iodide ratio) you will saturate yourself and be generally protected from the radioactive version.

Kartographer, did you just post a link recently on the correct way to use (and not use) Potassium Iodide? If you did (and still have it), please leave me the link. I forgot to bookmark it... There was information on where to purchase [short-term, but effective] masks, throw-away outer wear, etc.

I seem to recall they made another big purchase 6-12 months ago.

It seems to me there are two different conversations going on. This news about radioactive material going into the air and coming to the west coast is a PRESENT occurrence, NOT an occurrence that happened after the earthquake. It is the residual that was contained after the earthquake that is now reacting and throwing radioactive crap into the air and the Japanese are saying it is coming to the US west coast.

If I have this wrong, please tell me/us.

After the Japan problem, I bought the dosage recommended for two people and it is stored. I think when one “dose” is used, it means that round of doses making up what one should take. The amounts I have are two “doses” meaning the number of pills required to be the course of the treatment. They are in a blister pack with instructions. One blister pack per person.

I got them for two people but I can't take them as they would kill me since iodine is like a poison to me. It's on my medical records never to give or use iodine on me. Living in Texas, I hope radiation doesn't come here. I have the pills for two people and that would be my relatives because I can't take it. I know for sure the pills would kill me so I would have to take a chance the radiation wouldn't.

So measure it yourself. It’s not that difficult.

Local Walmarts out of stock most ammo for over a year. The a-hole employees buy and re-sell online rather than putting on the shelves for store customers.

Emailed this article to friend L.

?) L. Is it enough for the west coast?

A) L., why would you ask? The half life of radioactive iodine is what? 10 to14 days? If you take one tablet a day for a week there are enough for 2 million people. For 2 weeks, 1 million people.

Ummm. Would be more than enough if the west coast consisted of Redmond Washington and Cupertino California! If might be enough for the Executive branch and Congress and their families in Washington for a couple of weeks.

We need to see if HHS or HSA has also placed an order for body bags, and how many. Gee! Maybe we can figure out what they think is going to happen, or how big they expect it to be!

The walmarts around me have a small but fair selection of ammo. They do limit you to 3 boxes though.

These tabs have limited usefulness. I have a couple of packs to provide about 3 days of protection for my family.

IMO of more use are methods to prevent exposure. Sheet plastic, the simple face masks, and long sleeve clothes. If you can keep from breathing in contaminated material and keep from getting it on you it will help reduce exposure.

The only other real thing you can do is get out of the contaminated area.

I have the sheet plastic and major staple gun with staples and very good masks and plenty of long sleeved clothes. If power is off I’ve got plenty of mails and hammers and a slede hammer.
