Data Goldmine: Walgreens, WalMart Offer Free Prescriptions to ObamaCare Customers
Big Government ^ | 1/3/2014 | John Nolte

In what you can interpret as either an act of corporate altruism, corporate lobbying, or a mix of both, two giant retailers -- Walmart and Walgreens -- have agreed to save the Obama Administration from who knows how many horror-story anecdotes by agreeing to fill 30 days of free prescriptions for ObamaCare enrollees. The question is, though, what happens to the data and patient information these retailers collect?

When you have two of the biggest retailers in the country collecting untold amounts of personal health information from who knows how many people seeking free prescriptions, in the wake of revelations surrounding domestic NSA and Justice Department spying (on reporters!), it is not unreasonable to worry about this. We also know that a number of large corporations have apparently cooperated with the federal government's data grabs.

The thing is, wouldn’t almost ANY script under a new Obamacare policy be full price towards the deductible? At a minimum there’d be a copay.

This situation gives one pause. Walmart looks at its prescription departments as loss leaders, just a means to get customers into the store. Walgreen’s pharmacy business represents 50 % of store revenues. Without payment mechanisms in place as yet for obamacare, they’ll be looking for a big check or just start scraping off some of the large cash stash they have in the bank for expansion. Walgreen’s should be more concerned about their long term survival under BarryCare, as it will soon cease to exist except as “Government Drug Stores”

Maybe not shills, but not (any longer) solid GOP.

This is indicative of exactly nothing. Given the certainty this Administration will go after anyone or any entity they view as an enemy, you cannot blame Walmart for keeping the political contributions more or less equal. People and Businesses in the past never had to fear their Governments actions as far as a retaliation against them for making their political preferences known via contributions.

Free drugs for Obama's Free S**t Army.

Do shareholders want their company operating as an extension of Obama's socialist Free Stuff O'conomy?

You are dead wrong.

Businesses put their campaign and lobbying money where they think it will most benefit their bottom line. It is purely pragmatic on their part.

This shift is from the fact that both see the benefit of crony capitalism vice the free market. Look at the contributions from defense contractors...they've known that for years...the rest of the big corporate community is figuring it out.

Wow, going to these corporate pharmacies with solid insurance is horrible enough - just imagine what it’s going to be like when the freebies are handed out! Phew.

I don't believe I am

Sure but we live in a different time with this Administration, one in which anyone not 100% in favor of all they do is considered a mortal enemy and put on the Admin. hit list. The government has many tools to use including the fearsome IRS which can outlast and out spend anyone and any company. This butt hole in the WH and Clinton before him did not and do not hesitate to use the great powers of the IRS to further their agenda and destroy their enemies. It's a matter of survival imo and it is cheaper and more prudent to increase donations to the Dems (in this case) rather than have to spend many, many millions more in legal fees to defend frivolous lawsuits instigated by the slime we currently must deal with.

Indeed, it is all about the bottom line. This shift is from the fact that both see the benefit of crony capitalism vice the free market. Look at the contributions from defense contractors...they've known that for years...the rest of the big corporate community is figuring it out.

At first, Microsoft never gave any contributions to any political parties.

That began to change after Janet Reno held a press conference to declare war on them.

As we continue our slide into despotism survivors are being forced into ‘contributions’.
