Life on the New York City Plantation: Just Listen to the Speeches at the De Blasio inauguration
American Thinker ^ | 01/03/2013 | Ethel C. Fenig

Posted on 01/03/2014 6:56:31 AM PST by SeekAndFind

As the recently deceased former New York mayor Ed Koch blithely proclaimed upon losing a primary election "The People have spoken... and they must be punished."

The people of New York spoke and elected proud far out lefty (no, that is not "progressive") Bill de Blasio (D) as mayor. Will they be punished? Inaugurated yesterday on New Year's Day, the speeches provided a preview.

The first speaker, wealthy entertainer Harry Belafonte, set the tone.

While it is encouraging to know that the statistics have indicated a recent drop in our city's murder rate, New York alarmingly plays a tragic role in the fact that our nation has the largest prison population in the world," Belafonte said. "Much of that problem stems from issues of race, perpetuated by the depth of human indifference to poverty." "Changing the stop-and-frisk law is as important as it is the change of the law is only the tip of the iceberg in fixing our deeply Dickensian justice system,

Offering an inaugural prayer filled with Civil War and slavery references, Pastor Fred Lucas Junior, who receives almost $25,000 as chaplain of the city's Department of Sanitation, intoned:

"Sound forth the trumpets of heaven proclaiming a new Emancipation Proclamation in New York City. "For your divine leadership, emancipate every New Yorker from the shackles of fear, futility, and frustration."

The democrat/commies still can’t get over the fact that it was Republicans who freed the slaves...trying to constantly rewrite history AND RECLAIM THEIR SLAVES

If he can’t handle today’s snow storm, his stock will drop and he may not have the political capital to get anything done. One can hope. Ideologically based elected officials often cannot provide basic government services. He may look incompetent on his first day in office. Unless he can blame his problems on someone else - or on global warming.

I moved out of NYC last year and I grew up there. I feel like I just escaped Cuba in 1958 right before “el revolucion”. My brother is still there, I told him escape now while he can before they take everything he got but he don’t want to do it though. Plus I told him de Blasio is a muzzie sympathizer, some say he even converted to the death cult. So what does that mean? Another terror attack guaranteed, so everyone walking around there now, going into subways is basically playing Russian roulette.

I figured there was a reason my high school’s reading curriculum force fed me Charles Dickens until I was ready to puke.

“Even with a Democratic president behind the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a far larger percentage of Republicans than Democrats voted for it. Eminent Democratic luminaries voted against it, including Senators Ernest Hollings, Richard Russell, Sam Ervin, Albert Gore Sr., J. William Fulbright (Bill Clinton’s mentor) and of course, Robert Byrd. Overall, 82 percent of Senate Republicans supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964, compared to only 66 percent of Democrats. In the House, 80 percent of Republicans voted for it, while only 63 percent of Democrats did.

Crediting Democrats for finally coming on board with Republicans civil rights policies by supporting the 1964 act would be nearly as absurd as giving the Democrats all the glory for Regan’s 1981 tax cuts - which passed with the support of 99 percent of Republicans but only 29 percent of Democrats.”

Ed Koch’s immortal words - spoken with great humor - were “The people have spoken and the people must be punished!” And we were.

I think he’ll be fine. The current Department of Sanitation head is a carry over from Bloomberg’s admin and is very experienced with snow storms.

I love the calculations of politicians, particularly simplistic leftists: “for the cost of a soy latte for the rich, we can have universal Pre-K, etc., etc...” Its all so easy!

I have a feeling events will change their calculations. How about a stock-market that drops 20% in a year? NY City will instead find itself in a $5 billion hole.

The great wealth of NY City for a few, built by a Progressive institution, The Federal Reserve, for the benefit of its member banks, their employees and their hangers-on, now being chased by a Communist. The irony is too great.

What are New Yorkers so POed about?

NYC has to be in the top 10 of liberal US cities, even with token-Republican mayor Bloomberg at the helm most recently.

WTH do these people want?

If they don’t like DeBlasio, or don’t fear him, they may not be very motivated to make him look good.

NYC is under Black Theology control backed by socialists. Every black speaker spoke the tenets of Black Theology.

Mayor de Blasio doesn’t seem to understand the demographics of his own city. Based on personal and household income statistics from the Census Bureau, New York City is poorer than New York State. The New Yorks, both city and state, are poorer than adjacent New Jersey and Connecticut. True, there are a few zip codes on a small island in the middle of the Hudson River that feature very high incomes and residents who are willing to pay up for accessibility and to save time, but there are many more zip codes in New York City with many more poor people. If de Blasio were just Mayor of Manhattan Island south of 115th street, his schemes might work. But he’s not, so they won’t.

The first speaker, wealthy entertainer Harry Belafonte...

wealthy? I wonder... He hasn't had a hit in fifty years and how much can he get in royalties for the banana song? Old commies are the worst. You would think after seeing all the death caused by this ideology, mostly in his lifetime, he would have awakened to the facts of communism. Or failing that, why didn't he take up residence in a socialist paradise like Cuba?
