Doctor’s Office Spends 2 Hours On Hold With Health Insurer For Patient’s Surgery Authorization
ap/cbs ^ | january 3, 2014

On the plus side, the law’s protections mean consumers can no longer be denied coverage if they’re in poor health. New limits on how much insured patients must pay for care will mean fewer bankruptcies after catastrophic illnesses. Insurance plans must offer a minimum level of essential benefits, and care such as flu shots and mammograms will be fully covered without cost to patients.

But early problems with the federal HealthCare.gov website led many people to wait until last week to sign up, and insurers are still processing enrollment forms.

Paperwork problems almost delayed suburban Chicago resident Sheri Zajcew’s scheduled surgery Thursday, but Dr. John Venetos decided to operate without a routine go-ahead from the insurance company. That was after Venetos’ office manager spent two hours on hold with the insurer Thursday, trying to get an answer about whether the patient needed prior authorization for the surgery. The office manager finally gave up.

“I’m not a happy camper,” said Nate Zajcew, the patient’s husband. The couple signed up for a Blue Cross Blue Shield bronze plan through the federal HealthCare.gov site on Dec. 16. “I understand it’s just a matter of paperwork and yesterday was a holiday. I can be an SOB, too, at times, but since they’re going on with the procedure, it’s OK.”

Doctors office: "This is Dr. Smith's office and we are prepping a patient for an appendectomy, is patient XXXXXX with SSN 123-45-6789 insured and approved?"

Healthcare exchange: One moment while I pull that up.

click....click...click

Healthcare exchange: I'm sorry, we show that that patient is a registered Republican, has recently filled out an ATF Form 4473, and gave money to a pro-life group. Your request is denied. The only approved medication for this individual is cyanide capsules".

And then the solution will be government health care. The only people who want government health care are those who’ve never had it.

Just wait till you need an old, familiar standby prescription. I was in the pharmacy yesterday. I learned my scrip went up from 44 bucks to $186 !

To add insult to injury, my Medicare/Humana drug insurance doesn't cover the cost AT ALL starting January 1, 2014. So, therefore, this medicine, previously under coverage, is now ELIMINATED from coverage.

All of ObamaCare's sly little tricks will become evident every day now across the fruited plain. My pharmacist said don't blame me, blame Obama. Little does he know I'm an educated freeper......

Yep. Even those of us with private group insurance plans will soon be affected by FUBOCare.

Fortunately for me my group Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage did not go up and my plan is excellent. But how long can my provider last when most of his patients are with FUBOCare and he doesn’t get paid by Obama?

And with FUBO effing up 1/6 of the nations economy with Socialized Medicine, how long do you think the private plan insureres will last?

Same here but I doubt it will last long. Maybe this year, until November. After that? Who knows?

I just hope the situation gets increasingly worse and the mess is ended by November or soon after.

That is not the worst of it though. When the real cost of this obamacare monster becomes fully manifest discretionary spending will CRASH. People will cower in fear of the unknown costs of health care. No change like this can hit a society without a huge reaction. No system can absorb this much change so fast.

since they bought a bronze plan (*maybe) their deductible will probably have tp pay for the surgery anyway, with no insurance payment

seems like supplemental health insurance these days is gonna be VISA with a high line of credit

BINGO!

Just like HillaryCare before, this is a naked attempt to control the people by controlling access to the health system.

Better start reading in the ‘alternate medicine’ section of the library before they pull the books....

In the Old Days, people used to deride doctors by saying never to make an appointment for Wednesday afternoons because that was the day doctors played golf.

Now that we have a global disaster called Obamacare that seeks to deny as many people as possible even basic medical needs, doctors are forced to call the White House for permission to provide health care, only to learn that the Man is...playing golf.
