"but meds have a shelf life."

If stored properly(dry place - slightly below room temperature), most medications can last WELL past the "expiration date".

“Well, I hope that somebody wipes off the table after they take those chairs down — the feet of the chairs on the table surface is highly unsanitary. He may be off the grid, but germs lurk on the floor. His family may have enough food and home generated electricy, but they’ll die of some disease if he does not improve his housekeeping standards! LOL”

The house is still under construction. Still vacant. No one lives there yet.

Up in smoke, fried crispy critters.

More likely the panels are there because it would cost ten fortunes and a zillion forms and permits to get electricity out there. I don't think he's all that worried about losing power because he has back up plans.

You are right.

I am not a prepper, think it is dumb. I do live simply, think that is a smart strategy.

I have 3 photovoltaic panels, have had them since the early 1980’s. Only use them for unusual circumstances to power radio transmitters.

We also have 2 gasoline welder/power plants. We use them often at the farm.

No, my friend. That is not my point.

The left wants to reduce us to scratching a subsistence living on a piece of dirt with a stick. Cave man style.

Over the centuries we have learned how to be more productive, but it is dependent on trading and transportation. The quality of life has improved because of it.

It is NOT a bad thing to be as independent as possible, within reasonable limits.

The solution is to expose and overthrow the leftist scum and get on with our lives. We don't presently seem to be doing a very good job of that. Although our friends here are after them daily.

I admit I have increased my fruit trees, berry bushes and garden size over past 3 years. I admit I have increase my reloading capacity and amount of components on hand too. (am still doing that)

I already live in rural America and like it.

Until about a year ago, I was more focused on taking care of sick elderly relatives than anything else. Still doing some of that, but all that is left now is my father and my aunt.

I meant no disrespect for you or your attitudes. I am a solitary bee type myself, not a hive bee.

I can relate. I did about 2 years as a mountain man, completely off-grid, living in an 8' x 12' shack with no running water, and nearest neighbor about 1/2 mile away over rough terrain.

I like living alone like that.

Although flush toilets do have their charms. ;)

last time I looked it was something like $25-50m per unit which would run for 10 years powering 20,000 homes... which would be like $20/mon per home

why aren’t we rolling these out in the US? because the centralized system brings them a lot more money

“What would EMP do to those nice solar panels?”

Nothing. EMP isn’t this mystical creature that destroys all things electric and electronic, I don’t care how many people repeat that lie. EMP is a fairly weak pulse that is extremely brief, hence it requires very long wires to build up enough charge to do significant damage.

“It is NOT a bad thing to be as independent as possible, within reasonable limits.”

The definition of “reasonable limits” varies from one person to another. When a hurricane comes through here, my preps are such that it doesn’t bother me when the power goes out or water gets contaminated or stops, no matter how long that lasts. To me, that is “within reasonable limits”. Your mileage may vary.

Every time you refill them, take 3 out of the bottle and put them away. If your insurance plan allows for 90 days worth, take 10 out and put them away. In no time at all you’ll have a months worth put back.

I just asked my doc for a second prescription because I travel a lot and am always afraid of luggage getting lost. I90-day took it to a different drugstore and paid cash. Now I have a three-month supply, which I am careful to rotate so none of it gets too old.

My computer touch pad is getting out of whack!

I read it as well. Chilling. I couldn’t put it down. I do some prepping, but hubby is only humoring me. He doesn’t take it seriously at all and doesn’t mind using what I’ve put back. I had a goodly amount put back, but he’s using it faster than I can replenish it. Finances don’t allow putting back as much as I’d like.

There was a citizen’s panel on UFOs in Washington, DC this past summer. Roscoe was on the panel and was a very sober/sane voice throughout. He also made what may be the most sobering statement at the end, regarding why the government keeps huge secrets.

“Even a lite EMP could devastate the country ...” IIRC a small EMP would be carried mostly by the transmission lines, thus any solar powered devices INSIDE a conventionally wired home and not connected to the grid would be in a crude Faraday cage. The panels outside would be less susceptible than things on the grid.

I have a well in town and at the farm. We have portable generators that can run them if the power is off.

We have the option of wood heat at both homes. Plenty of wood.

We have a meat processing building at the farm with commercial Hobart sausage mill, meat slicer, butcher band saw, walk-in box. etc.

But I still do not consider myself a prepper.

Re EMP/Solar panels:

Interesting discussion. I’ve wondered about this myself.

Bartlett used to be my Congressman. Now I'm *spit* represented *spit* by a gerrymandered liberal dingleberry who wants to be Pelosi's favorite purse carrier.
