The last time John Nunnemacher had health insurance was 15 years ago, when his employer paid for his coverage.

Since then, the freelance graphic artist hasn't been able to afford a policy. Luckily, he didn't get seriously ill or have a bad accident -- which could have left the San Jose man bankrupt.

But as of New Year's Day, the 43-year-old Nunnemacher was once again insured.

Nearly four years after Congress passed a controversial health care law, tens of thousands of Californians like Nunnemacher can now see a doctor without begging for charity care.

In Oakland, 32-year-old independent music producer Clifford Brown said it's been five years since he's had medical insurance. Brown said he's been able to support his family and maintain a "pretty good quality of life," as long as he doesn't "get too sick."

Brown initially thought he was eligible for an exchange plan as well, but his income is too low to qualify for a private plan. So he's reluctantly joined Medi-Cal, with the hope of moving to a Kaiser exchange plan later this year if he makes more money.

He has maintained a pretty good quality of life but has to go on welfare (Medi-Cal) to get health insurance

THIS is going to be a major problem in relpealing this P.o.S.

How many are added to medicaid who will be thrown off?

They dont want people to join and pay - they want as many more people as they can have on medicaid

“How many are added to medicaid who will be thrown off?”

None. Its an exponential expansion of government dependence. Wait until the FedGov cuts back on subsidizing the states on Medicaid in a couple of years.

Joke’s on you, John. Your deductible is going to be so high you may as well not even have insurance.

the freelance graphic artist…

Maybe he could choose a line of work that pays better! We can expect the media to flood us with every "success" story they can find, while ignoring all the horror stories.

And no doctors will accept you as a patient. But you’ve got a piece of paper stating that you have insurance.

Show me the math. Why should we take it on his word and the Sun-Sentinel’s word that he couldn’t afford insurance?

obamites especially want new middle class people over 55 (note the interesting age specification) onto MEDCAID because when they die, the govt can claim their humble estate (like maybe a house) to redistribute...err, to pay back their medical bills

in the past po’ was po’ and the welfare class had nothing to lose going on MEDICAID, but now that the middle class is being forced into MEDICAID, things have changed

Not even cash-pay medical care necessarily has to run up impossible bills. The confusion has come because modern “insurance” is not against catastrophic illness but attempts to be a maintain-all plan. That’s also why the stink from the Obama folks about leaving out contraception and other things that Christians have moral qualms about. Because then it won’t be a maintain-all plan.

I hope these sheeple really see what this is about. It’s about arrant, arrogant pride on the part of these government royalty! They want to possess our health care! They wanted to possess Negros, and did through the end of Jim Crow, then asserted their possession through bribery.

Well I sure hope that this time the bridge of possessing the people is so much too far that the people will treat this with revulsion that has feet.

I think this comment from the comment section on this POS article is informative:

“Typical happy news piece...uplifting headline on page C-1, followed by a few anecdotes of Californians who are benefiting from Obamacare. Then in the last half of the page C-3 continuation, a mention of the 900,000 Californians losing their existing health plans due to the new law. Of course there wasn’t room for nearly one million anecdotes about the losers in this deal.”

BTW, the lead in says Santa Cruz but this article came from the lefty San Jose Mercury News.

...without begging for charity care.

while he's not begging, he is getting a subsidy (ie forced charity)

sorry but this is such bullS**T. I had my own individual insurance from 1987 to 2001 it was $100 per month up until i joined a company and took their insurance. It increased bit by bit until at age 50 it was $400 a month. a lot but not unaffordable.

The fine print under the picture says he got the plan with a subsidy, so he is still getting charity. Or should I say extorted money?

I think everyone is wrong with regards to Obamacare, We should Embrace it, and demand that ALL PUBLIC EMPLOYEES and PUBLIC SERVANTS immediately enroll in Obamacare and save the TAXPAYERS from wasting All this money on “INFERIOR PLANS” provided by We the Taxpayers.

Last time I looked EVERY PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNION was in Favor for and advocated for passage of OBAMACARE. Let them enjoy the Benefits and save us from wasting all that money on “INFERIOR HEALTHCARE”

Obamacare is charity care, any doctor that sees him is losing money for the privilege.

Yep, it is a peonage grab. Medicaid was put there for safety net reasons. Now folks are being shoved into it as though it was to be hammocks. Another way that chickens are coming home to roost. Don’t damn Medicaid per se, but do insist that it stop being abused.

It’s up to Us The People to insist that our representing politicians change their tune, or else yield their seats to those who sing a better tune.
