Israel may give ‘free’ abortions to women aged 20-33, at a cost of $4.5 million a year

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 3, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A committee has recommended that Israel expand its national funding for abortion, as well as access – giving “free” abortions to women aged 20 to 33.

The recommendations are likely to be made law in 2014, thus expanding the number of abortions in the Middle Eastern state by 6,300 – and costing taxpayers $4.5 million.

Current Israeli law allows abortion in almost any case, and the government pays for abortions for women under 18 and for medical reasons. Women under 20 and over 40 can have government-funded abortions under special circumstances, and women between those ages if rape, incest, and life of the mother are relevant.

While killing an unborn baby carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, numerous exceptions exist. Men have no say in the deaths of unborn children in the case of abortion, and minors are not required to inform parents if they are having an abortion.

Each woman in the Israeli military, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), is given at least one “free” abortion if she wants one.

Furthermore, while all women who want a publicly funded abortion must go before a government panel before having an abortion, The Times of Israel reports 98 percent of abortions are approved.

According to the Times, the committee would have expanded abortion further, but cost considerations prevented this from happening.

Private abortions cost approximately $1,600; expansion of public funding will cost $714 dollars per abortion, according to the committee.

There are currently 20,000 abortions performed annually at public hospitals in Israel.

20,000 abortions a year. A figure Hezbollah and Hamas could nevr hope to reach.

The decadent secular West is its own worst enemy, not terrorists.

The Nazis couldn’t genocide them, so they’ve decided to do it themselves.

If you were to follow the money, I bet all the funding for the abortions of these Jewish babies comes directly from the United States taxpayer.

Uh....weren’t you guys just a few decades ago trying to get Jews off of embargoed boats, and past the British, so you could increase your numbers in Israel?

By all means keep praying to keep Israel safe. I’m sure the man upstairs will be too busy laughing to answer next time.

If Israel were a state in the US, I wouldn’t ever want to live there.

Looking at the CIA factbook, Israel, relative to the US:

Has a higher birthrate and population growth rate but a lower immigration rate. Plus a lower median age than the US.

Just because a woman has an abortion doesn't mean she won't later have children or that she hasn't already had all the children she wants.

A country’s wealth is its people.

The opposing view comes straight from hell.

The Nazis had an expression for it.

Lebensunwertes Leben = Life Unworthy of Life

It was a Nazi designation for the segments of populace which had no right to live and thus were to be “euthanized”. This concept formed an important component of the ideology of Nazism and eventually helped lead to the Holocaust. The euthanasia program was known as Action T4.

The expression comes from the title of a 1920 book, Die Freigabe der Vernichtung Lebensunwerten Lebens (Allowing the Destruction of Life Unworthy of Life).

This seems to mesh well with the idea of abortion. Maybe these Israelis will go full Moloch, and start offering their children as burnt sacrifices on its altar, in exchange for the promise of wealth.

Strange, on this thread it says the change is already a done deal and Israel "will" give unlimited free abortions for any reason next year:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3107395/posts

But on the thread we're on now, they say it's just a proposal and Israel "may" give unlimited free abortions for any reason next year.

I really have to rethink my opinion of Israel's "conservative" Likud Party if they're the ones in power and fine and dandy with this change. ESPECIALLY if it happens under Bibi's watch. Forget about being social conservative. Even here in America, self-proclaimed "pro-choice" Democrats who argue that Roe v. Wade is "settled law" will still claim they're "personally against" abortion and don't believe in taxpayer funding of it (even if they vote the opposite way). I've certainly never met any "fiscal conservative" who thinks taxpayers should be forced to fund abortion on demand for any reason. Even Planned Parenthood worshipers like Mark Kirk and Hillary Clinton give lip service claiming to be against it.

I wouldn't be surprised if a poll showed that a strong majority of American Jews favored abortion on demand for any reason, but honestly, I expected better of their Isreali counterparts.

If this is true, this is pure evil. The last thing Israel needs to be doing is murdering its Jewish unborn.

Ben Ficklin, your point seems to be that abortion probably has little impact on birthrate, because most women who abort, can and will get pregnant again later. Plus, as you note, the Israeli population has a relatively young median age, so they are well-positioned to recoup their losses by later childbearing.

This may be true in an immediate sense, but it doesn't take into account the larger and deeper issues.

A sexually careless, hedonistic society filled with people who are not protective toward each other, is unlikely to later settle into building good child-rich, child-civilizing families: by "good" I mean with kids in sufficient numbers, being well-raised into strong, virtuous and productive adulthood.

The availability of abortion, and especially "free" subsidized abortion, encourages a rapid descent into habits of antithetical to marriage and family formation. Such people are handicapped, increasingly uninclined and unable to form stable marriages and robust families. This means that, no matter what the numerical birthrate, they are less and less likely to have children whose formation is sound.

Abortion radically reduces the sanctity of sex, of marriage, and of life itself, which is the only foundation for a child-friendly society. Child-killing fosters a dozen other dehumanizing and trivializing behaviors -- it corrupts the medical profession, the legal profession and the political profession, destroys ethics and uproots the foundations of justice, all of which has social as well as personal consequences.

The fact remains that the abortionists have killed more Israelis than Hamas and Hezbollah have. And I do not respect Jew-killers. Including Jewish ones.

Amen.

The price they ultimately will *pay* will be much, much higher than $4.5 million a year. The cost will not be monetary.

Nothing new under the sun... people have been sacrificing their children to foreign false gods like molech, for centuries....
Only the altar changes...
Now it’s on the altar of convenience...and freedom...

Netanyahu and Likud are not really conservative by any standard we’d recognize in America. Think Bill Clinton’s ‘New Democrats’.

Israel, the people not the state, who accept this, who welcome and celebrate homosexuality and condone outright murder have invited a terrible retribution. I am talking about the Children of Israel all over the world who have turned their backs on our heritage and defied the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses. There is no forgiveness for murder, ‘dashing babies against the rocks’. Homosexuals do not even realize they are part of this for ‘wasting their seed’ which is the same as murder.
I pray for those who adhere to the Law that they are not lumped in with those who don’t, but I fear the search for ten righteous men.
