Democrats’ ‘fairness’ Catch-22
New York Post ^ | January 5, 2013 | Michael Goodwin

All the political talk of tackling inequality should warm the hearts of Jets fans. After next month’s game in the Meadowlands, it will be 45 years since the team won the Super Bowl, a measure of inequality that cries out for justice.

Oh, the unfairness! There are 32 NFL teams, so, in a utopian world, each team would win the championship once every 32 years. But the Jets haven’t won it since 1969 — where have you gone, Joe Namath? Some other teams, including the hated Patriots, are greedy fat cats who win more than their fair share.

There oughta be a law against that. Actually, there is. The NFL, in a quest for socialist-like “parity,” enforces rules that aim to produce equal results.

The worst teams get to draft the best college players. All teams equally share the biggest pot of revenues. A salary cap equally limits payrolls. And each year’s schedule gives weaker teams weaker opponents.

The refs with prefs have been trying to rectify the scoring inequality.

This season seems even worse.

In one of the college bowl games, the ref made up a rule that the offense set and played before the defense could get set, thus the offense had to do a do-over.

This cannot be discussed, ever. Everyone knows that soccer is the most socialist sport in the world (although its free-market attributes continue to be polluted by ideas from the NFL).

The hard core left could care less who wins or losses the Super Bowl. They are focused on eliminating the sport as it exists today.

Look for:

Pop Warner to go to flags.
HS football will be next.

Given 15-20 years of PC football quality athletes will find other sports and the talent feeding the NFL will be weakened.

Actually, I’m convinced that the NFL parity system…

...was developed as an experiment by scientists…

…to determine the maximum density of “suckage” allowed by Newtonian, Einsteinian, or quantum physics…

…as defined by the 50 year record of the Detroit Lions.

The NFL faces serious challenges from the concussion issues on one hand, and the endless pandering to special interest groups on the other.

Either one could bring them down.

The NFL, in a quest for socialist-like “parity,” enforces rules that aim to produce equal results.

And it has WORKED!!

Over the years; the NFL's teams have averaged exactly 50% winners and losers; every stinking year!!!

Don’t buy tickets to professional sports games. Problem solved.

If you need a sports fix, play one yourself. Go to your kids’ games or to the local high school games. And don’t buy NFL, MLB, NBA branded crap in the stores.

Seriously, how much enjoyment are you really getting for your hard-earned money when it goes to pro sports? Unless you’re rolling in money, $100+ per seat + exorbitant parking + exorbitant concession prices seems pretty steep. For that kind of money you could buy some good fishing gear, a hunting rifle, see a dozen movies (or rent even more), buy a video game system, buy some binos and go birdwatching, play paintball/laser tag, go biking, swimming, hiking, camping, host a BBQ at your house (eat it off the tailgate if that makes it taste better), ....

Do you really worship these guys? Are their accomplishments your accomplishments?

The NFL, in a quest for socialist-like “parity,” enforces rules that aim to produce equal results.

The goal of the NFL is to have their teams spend most of their time in matchups that are sufficiently balanced to attract fan interest. A team will likely get much more revenue from a game which pairs them against a worthy opponent than they would get if paired against a team that would be unlikely to score against them nor present any meaningful defense. I don't see efforts to ensure viable match-ups to be a product of socialist ideology, but merely a pragmatic effort to increase revenue. To be sure, such efforts often have the same problems that socialist policies do, but the policies do nonetheless serve a useful purpose (unlike socialism).
