I don’t like the playoff system for one reason. It adds an extra game to the mix and college football players are already stretched to limit (workouts, study, how to handle the press, and alumni that tempt poor players). Enough is enough. This is not pro football, this is for most of them just kids trying to get a hard fought education.
College football is the farm system for professional football. The players should get paid. And not with a worthless piece of paper.
Opens too many cans of worms.. Only a select few colleges actually profit from sports. Can colleges competitively bid on players? Should you pay other sports players as well, if not, why not? Nope, hope it never happens.
first of all, a college diploma is not, I repeat, NOT, a “worthless piece of paper”. that may be the dumbest thing that I have ever read on the Internet. EVER.
what do you think you would be accomplishing by paying student athletes to play football? do you have a reason? What problem are you fixing?
Perhaps you are onto something. Perhaps it is time for the NFL to just make it’s own minors leagues.
Why would a playoff system generate more interest? We already have NFL, why make a second rate version. They are taking everything interesting about college football. It keeps getting more and more boring.
If they are going to go in this direction, why not get writers and script out all the results for the season in advance? After all, it’s a business, and to maximize profits, why allow actual “winning” and “losing” games, when those “plot lines” could be scripted for maximum profit?
Basically, you are saying you don’t like college football? How could you like college football if you hate bowls and like playoffs. They’ve only had bowls and never had playoffs?
The XFL failed 13 years ago. Now the NCAA and NFL are doing everything in their power to turn themselves into the XFL.

If you were ranked 5th in the system they have now you wouldn’t have a shot at a national title anyway. The NCAA does not want a 16 team playoff. 8 would be about right. 4 for now is a good start....Eliminate that stupid conference championship if it gets bigger.

That’s why you have such a deep roster...injuries. Ohio State had a few plus they had a suspension. Still almost pulled out a win over Clemson. If these guys go to a top school they better be prepared to play.
just not so. wild card teams win the super bowl with some regularity. and while it may not happen every year, I need only prove that it has happened at all to prove my point.
playoff advocates are not only failing to solve the "fairness" problem, they are creating an even larger "fairness" problem.
They would be paid for services delivered with American dollars, rather than with worthless degrees in choose-your-subject: sociology, hotel management, physical education, etc. The marginal cost to a college of providing a worthless degree is practically nothing.

I'm opposed to fraud. In this case, the fraud is reimbursing foolish young people with worthless degrees. It may be legal fraud, but it's still fraud.
Moreover, some of these players may suffer severe injuries, and they will never receive any further reimbursement from the profit-making "non-profit" colleges.
Harvard has a $35 billion endowment, and can't afford to pay their players. Please.
So? Why not allow colleges to choose how they want to compensate their players? What's the difference between a scholarship and cash? If a college degree is truly worth something, there should be no difference, in the sense of compensation.
Can colleges competitively bid on players?
They already do, with tuition, fancy locker rooms (see Alabama), and all manner of other perks. Why not bring the shady deals into the light? Why create a black market?
Should you pay other sports players as well, if not, why not?
Should we pay kids who work at McDonald's during college? If not, why not? What about the ones who work in the college cafeteria?
Nope, hope it never happens.
Why? It's a pointless tradition, in the worst sense of the word. It's more befitting a socialist society than a free society.
The video of the woman throwing herself into a frenzy was the perfect end to the so called SEC domination........
Well let’s just eliminate all competition. All that effort and striving for excellence - definitely not healthy.
Well at least the University of Phoenix already has an excellent football stadium.
