Pope: 'Authentic' Islam opposes violence

Pope Francis’ insistence in his new apostolic exhortation that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence” is drawing negative reviews from some analysts of the religion who point to the Islamic holy book’s calls to wage war against nonbelievers.

“How does he know that? When did he become an imam?” wonders columnist Pamela Geller.

She notes as an example the Quranic passage that states: “So when you meet those who disbelieve [in battle], strike [their] necks.”

“At a time when Christianity worldwide is under siege by Islamic jihadists, the leader of the Catholic Church claims that the Quran teaches nonviolence,” Geller writes. ...

“Pope Francis’ insistence in his new apostolic exhortation that “authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Quran are opposed to every form of violence””

To try to be charitable, I’ll just say that Francis must not have had the non-condensed, unexpurgated version in front of him.

I am beginning to believe the Pope has bought into the PC garbage about Mooselims or he is stupid.

Again... I can’t see how any theory can get him to such a statement. Empirical observation is flaky at best... there are some relatively peaceful Muslims but even those SAY they are harking to the entire Koran. It keeps on happening that these “moderates” find their Koranic roots, actually living what they say they believe, and turn radical, and no one can predict who and when. Is every religion on earth just an embrace of Jehovah in disguise? Even with my mind as wide open as it can get without dropping my brains out, I would have to say no, there are grim counter examples.

Apparently the Cardinals didn’t think that intellectual honesty was a requisite for the job.

Why is it then that those “authentic” practicioners murder, destroy, and denegrate life wherever they go? Islam was an demonically inspired cult, spread by the sword, and enforced by backwards fanatics. It is 100% of the devil. While we should engage rational muslims with a spirit of love, we should not lie to ourselves and the world and pretend it is anything other than an evil scourge upon God’s fallen world.

I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for five years and worked with 30 Saudi men all that time. What the Pope said is what the Muslim men I met and knew said.

But, there is such hatred of all things Muslim, and perhaps Saudi, here that I know what I say falls MOSTLY on deaf ears.

There are jerks, morons and a-holes everywhere. I didn't meet any MORE or FEWER there. They just all had dark hair, brown eyes, mustaches (even some of the women) and had a king.

Um, no.

The only constant of of islam, is the violent oppresion of those who do not practice islam.

The denial of this statement will only bring jihad upon you, if you are not a devout follower of islam.

Islam is like the warlord’s handbook of how to throw the world back to the 9th century for fun and profit, but only for the most devout and dedicated ruling thug.

To me, islam is the equivalent of either the communists, or the nazis, developing a religion to further their goals, and brainwash the masses into participating.

“Why is the Pope pretending that it is a religion of peace?”

My guess is because there are Catholic communities stuck “behind enemy lines” in muslim lands, so he wants to placate them.

I wasn’t that happy with Benedict, but Francis doesn’t even seem to be Catholic.

Benedict needs to come out of retirement.

Ultimately, all faiths are embraces of supernatural entities. We can allow for the way the faiths are lived out on earth to be imperfect, in fact individual examples can be pretty wacked out to external appearances. But we have no basis to claim that a faith that calls for fleshly domination of the world, and even the “moderates” are biding their time until that happens, is centered around the Christ, even “imperfectly.”

Aside from that, I don’t think the Pope has standing to determine what is ‘true’ Islam. Would he appreciate some Muslim leader (I know they don’t have anyone like a pope) saying what is ‘true’ Catholicism?

"Who am I to judge?" With those five words, Pope Francis "stepped away from the disapproving tone, the explicit moralizing typical of popes and bishops," writes A columnist Francis made that statement in July, in response to a reporter's question about the status of gay priests in the Church...' FRANK LOST ME AFTER THAT ONE....PSSSST HEY, YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO JUDGE AND TEACH .....AND INTERPRET ET AL... NOW A LOT OF FOLKS IF THEY WERE A JUDGIN' THEY'D JUDGE THE WHOLE MUSSIES AS A CULT AND BAD NEWS FOR THE REST OF PLANET EARTH.... BASED ON GELLER'S ELUCIDATIONS...MOST FOLKS'D SAY THAT IS ARGUABLY A VERY SOUND JUDGEMENT....JUST SAYIN'

It certainly sounds shallow at best. I mean maybe he’s thinking that since there are Muslims who don’t rabble rouse, they are the peaceful ones, and since hey Christ is the prince of peace....

But if you look at what these moderates actually believe, most are not nominal, and most don’t object to the Muslim domination of the world, they just don’t think it’s time for their jihad to go physical. Would you call that peaceful... it beggars the imagination to do that.

... someone needs to look at the larger picture.

What “religion” offers its young testosterone laden boys 72 whores for killing for their “religion”? What religion has rules for splitting up the booty from raids?

Those are the primary reasons I say it is a mercenaries handbook.

The religion part is just a beard for their crimes against humanity which are typically genocidal in nature. Poor popie needs to redress the last 1400 years of historical performance. In it’s imperalistic expansion they have whacked millions upon millions of people, raiding their wealth and ideas in the process. They are raiders, not creators of ideas nor wealth.
The story allah-baba and the forty thousand thieves was a more correct portrayal of their identity.

Purely thieve warriors.

And the best predicator of the future is past performance.

They are not going to change.

“I lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for five years and worked with 30 Saudi men all that time. What the Pope said is what the Muslim men I met and knew said. “

Yes, I realized that many Muslims believe in peace, but that is not what is in the Koran and that is not what Muhammad, the pedophile, believed.

About 20 years ago, I met a Muslim who wanted to convert us. He gave us a book to read. I don't even think it mentioned the Koran. There is definitely a watered down version of the Muslim religion, but that is not “authentic Islam”. Also the problem with Muslims is that it is not a sin to lie to infidels, so you never know if they are being honest with you. After 9/11, there was a Muslim, we knew from work, who said that 80% of the Muslims at his Mosque were happy that 9/11 happened. He said he did not feel this way, but that he had a more moderate view of Islam.

If you really practice what Muhammad taught, you become a murderer, a bigamist, a pedophile, etc. If you really practice what Jesus taught, you become a Mother Teresa.

Taqiyya for the Infidel, I fear. They quote the Mecca verses to those who do not understand that when there is a conflict between the two, the Medina verses take precedence. Here is a pretty good summary: http://www.meforum.org/1754/peace-or-jihad-abrogation-in-islam
