Donald Trump to New York GOP: I'll Run for Governor if We Skip Primary

Donald Trump is ready to run for governor of New York if the state's Republicans will unify behind him, but state GOP Chairman Ed Cox says Trump should officially declare his candidacy if he's serious about seeking the state's top spot.

Trump told the New York Daily News, after a two-hour meeting with 50 Republicans in his office on Friday, that he is seeking full support of the party and wants no primary elections.

"You can’t have primaries," said Trump. "You can’t have all the wasted time and effort in doing that. You have to pick somebody and go to win. If that couldn’t happen, I wouldn’t do it."

Cox, though, said Trump should go through the process of running, like any other candidate.

"If Donald Trump is serious about running for governor, he should declare his candidacy, run and go through the process," Cox is already supporting Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's potential campaign, the Daily News reports.

Astorino has not yet officially decided to run, but his spokeswoman, Jessica Proud, said he would not step aside and allow Trump to run unopposed.

"We think it's great he's thinking of running," Proud said. "They both care deeply about the state and are both very concerned watching Gov. [Andrew] Cuomo manage its decline."

Donald Trump is someone I take as NOT SERIOUS about 89% of the time. He has played the bait and switch game more often and more effectively that Lucy in the Peanuts comic strip.

It is the Smart way to go—Bring back the smoke filled back rooms—The Republicans chop each other up and give the Democrats an opportunty to destroy the best people they have in the Primary. lets follow Trumps advise here—why not? The old way hasn’t been working for us in a while.

So he wants to be anointed?

That was my first thought...what?...he wants to be anointed?

Trump is a jackass and just looking for publicity. He likes to say smack...but never actually does anything of importance.

Then of course, there’s that hair of his. How could anyone take him seriously when he’s so vain he thinks the stuff on top of his head makes him look good.

without having to work for it.

You mean give the 'political dance and song'? So the liberal media can trash him and the clueless boob tube idiots will believe them. We had enough of that for years. He has worked harder than most and that's a given. Seems you think the rich don't work and the gov't gives them money like they do with scummy politicians, like Cuomo and his father, get and got. It's a family tradition, you know, as welfare is. Ask the clintons, both 'welfare' recipients all their adult life. Their work is to scam you.

Hey, conservaKate - tell us what is so good about Cuomo. Since you are so vain, it should be easy as it’s about all about hair for you.

You sure spend a lot of time telling other people what they think and stuff. How about sticking to the topic, debating the topic and knocking off the ad hominem attacks.

What I know or wish to know has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the PT Trump Circus should be given the nomination without a primary. The whole idea is absurd.

Do you really think that primary voters should not have a say? Do you think rank-and-file voters would stick with a political party that appoints candidates in smoky back rooms?

Cuomo ran unopposed.

Actually, he didn't. On September 18, 2009, advisors to President Barack Obama informed Governor David Paterson that the President believed he should withdraw his 2010 gubernatorial candidacy, stepping aside for "popular Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

And then a business man upstate ran against him but the media ignored him - except the trash and twisting of truth they are known for. In the November 2, 2010, general election, Cuomo faced Republican Carl Paladino, a Buffalo-based businessman who had been heavily supported by the Tea Party movement. Cuomo won the election for Governor, winning 62% of the vote. Bottom line Cuomo is a bammy boy and can be controlled.

Running unopposed is not the same thing as forcing others not to run.

Trump should stick to his traveling circus

He’s already met with the Conservative Party, from what I understand.

New York law says that if more than one candidate gets at least 15 percent at the state convention, those candidates are on the primary ballot. Do you think that there might be 15 percent of New York Republicans and/or 15 percent of New York Conservatives who oppose Trump?

smoky back rooms

Is that where you are and the reason your vision is so clouded? This is in the Daily News. Trump told the New York Daily News... Cuomo's election was all arranged in the smokey room you speak of and Barry was pulling the strings.

How about sticking to the topic, debating the topic and knocking off the ad hominem attacks.

You aren't debating, you are saying nonsense and picking your topic of some smokey back room and then crying victim.

You would love the GOP to become a carbon copy of the Democrats. Do you really think that is the way things SHOULD be done?

I say, what is the point of that?

...

Just another reason I am glad I am not a Republican.
