My plea: A citywide task force to address gun homicides
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 12 jan 2014 | James Causey

When Reggie Evans, a cook at George Webb restaurant, was shot and killed on the city's east side, the question on many people's mind was why suspect Delorean Bryson, whom police describe as a "career criminal," was on the streets and how was he able to get a gun.

The simple answer is that the criminal justice system is flawed and current laws are not sufficient to keep guns out of the hands of felons. What we need is a larger public health perspective to reduce gun violence.

I was in a meeting with Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn recently to talk about the city's spike in homicides. He said all the right things. He wants officers to do a better job, and he is determined to make sure that they have the right training and software to be better crime fighters.

He also conceded that no department can reduce crime without help.

Flynn's right, and the city as a whole needs to do a better job of working together. Other agencies, such as juvenile justice and children's courts, don't share necessary information with the Police Department, making it harder to solve crimes, Flynn said.

In November, Milwaukee was named by Forbes magazine as the 10th most-violent big city in the nation behind cities including Detroit, Oakland and Atlanta.

current laws are not sufficient to keep guns out of the hands of felons

There are no imaginable laws that could keep guns out of the hands of felons. Our only choice is whether the felons will be the only ones armed or their law-abiding victims will be armed too and able to defend themselves.

You are correct. “Keeping guns out of the hands of felons” is just a phrase used to promote “Keeping guns out of the hands of citizens”. The key to understand this is that the proposals put forth always impose more difficulties on law abiding citizens than they do on the criminals.

Yup. All we need is just one more law affecting only legal gun owners and those nasty felons won’t be able to get any guns at all. We’d all be safe then. Until we need just one more law that is.

” career criminal” - here’s a news flash! Why not control criminals? Instead of questioning why guns were obtainable why not question why he was still on the streets?

No doubt all these shootings have been caused by an acute shortage of gun laws.

For the sake of our own safety we can only hope that our noble government will promptly abolish the 2nd amendment and disarm us all. /s

What are we going to do about this gun violence?

“I KNOW! I KNOW!” says little Mary Democrat from the front row while waving her hand wildly.
“We need to take all those evil guns from every one.”

Police cannot, will not and do not stop crime or help citizens.
Their only purpose is to draw the chalk lines and document what has happened.
It is the citizen’s responsibility to provide their own protection and prevent themselves from being a victim.

Another brain full of mush grown into adulthood. Common sense stands no chance with these louts. They want to disarm felons before they commit crimes. This twisted philosophy makes every man a felon who only need a gun to do crime.
Without guns, they say, there is no crime, only petty larceny that does not hurt anyone. More easy fixes that do not work by a government bent on control.

An armed citywide task force to confront felons would work much better

And the first thing IDIOT Mary Democrat will do, If she just learned HOW TO USE a gun herself, she'd be a lot better off.

The United States Citizens KNOW that they're going to have to fight TYRANTS in their own government.
You cannot protect life, without the ability to take life.

While you are WAITING for the police to respond, someone could be losing their life.
All people of a responsible age should be armed.

As EternalVigilance reminded us:

Click here to read the 12 page pamphlet.

Let us NEVER FORGET THAT !

Let's subjugate them to OUR end game, DUST!
"COMPROMISE" is a DIRTY word!
People who study the Bible know that COMPROMISE almost always leads to destruction.

It's time to mock the "Gun Control" Zombies!
"Gun Control" is a firm grip, steady breathing, accurate aim (developed by lots of practice), and a slow trigger pull.

The Swiss have got it CORRECT !
We need to learn from the Swiss and implement their "gun control measures" here in the United States right now, today!
These laws are the ones we should shove into the "2nd Amendment Haters" faces.

The Swiss have got it CORRECT !
Let's adopt THEIR LAWS !

Remember: Read Second Amendment: It’s Not About Hunting, IT'S ABOUT TYRANNY .

why not question why he was still on the streets?

They did, at the beginning of the article. Then they just forgot about it and got on with the agenda.

No laws will keep guns out of the hands of felons. The Second Amendment (the RKBA “shall not be infringed”) properly observed is the law that curbs violent felons better than anything else.

As long as we allow for ‘disparate impact’, as long as we allow for ‘racism’ to be the battering ram that kowtows whites, as long as we pretend that guns and not criminals are the problem, this will continue to get worse. We are socially and culturally devolving down the toilet.

“What we need is a larger public health perspective to reduce gun violence.”

That has been tried repeatedly, and failed.

What has also been tried repeatedly, and worked, is gun liberty. Even career criminals admit that their biggest fear is an armed public, and that an armed public radically increases the degree of difficulty in committing crime.

Importantly, what few who support gun liberty recognize is that the twin of gun liberty is capital punishment.

However, opponents of gun liberty are invariably also opposed to capital punishment, because they have made this connection.

Over the course of many years, the opposition to capital punishment has successfully accomplished extreme delay, as a minimum, to justice, with outright prohibition also common. But gun liberty negates their efforts.

That is, when in preventing a felony crime, an ordinary citizen shoots a criminal to death, they accomplish instantly what takes lawyers, judges, juries and endless appeals and political intercessions, decades to accomplish, if at all. All the legal, political and emotional trickery they can muster is for naught.

And it unveils a great truth, that the citizenry *are* the law, not the police or government. And if the police and government are unable to provide justice, then the citizenry are forced to do so. So by affording the citizenry the ability to do so, the police and government cease to have power. In this case, over life and death.

Criminals realize these things, as do those who protect and defend criminals from the public and justice.

Those who advocate gun liberty should make this connection as well.

No matter what laws we have, the removal of all KNOWN guns or a force of a gazillion police officers, if the perps want to kill someone, they will get it done.

The resolution to the problem becomes one of culture change and perhaps “shock” may be a better word to describe how that culture might be changed..

There is a way to overcome this plague but probably not something people would be willing to support. First time convicted criminals get “death”. It may take a while but the numbers will go down sooner or later as the pool of candidates diminishes. “ Too Drastic” you say, maybe not.

I had a chance to read a account about life in Houston Texas back around 1900. Almost everyone carried a pistol of some sort. Gun violence happened but very rarely. The bad guys knew that most everyone was armed and would shoot back.

After Hurricane Ike, the press asked Gov. Perry about looting in Galveston country. The head of the DPS stated that there was no looting in that county.

Galveston County Texas has the highest per capita issuances of concealed handgun licenses. The bad guys know this.
