That was a misstatement of my comment.

I was commenting that men can make plenty of money without anything more than a high school diploma, while the women have to get advanced degrees to make a decent amount of money.

You aren’t cute with your twisting of words which I bet you use on the people around you because you would rather win an argument than be right.

Don’t twist my words Papa Bear, I said out earn female with their little office jobs. I am a family lawyer.

OK, now I understand. In your job, you see all the ugliness of the world. I guess it can be wearing, day after day.

You are implying I am low class? Did I once say these were my friends?

Lawyers deal with very tough problems and people at their worst moments.

You are a snob.

HamiltonJay, your story sounds a lot like the divorce case my poor (woman) friend went through. You might be interested in this new movie that talks about how lawyers are screwing EVERYONE involved in divorce cases.

Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZTOT6DKfZ8

I was commenting that men can make plenty of money without anything more than a high school diploma, while the women have to get advanced degrees to make a decent amount of money.

Case in point, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Larry Ellison, high school graduates who never got a bachelors degree yet managed to make a lot of money.

Not having a degree doesn't mean you haven't studied, learned, and gotten experience at doing things. It just means that your learning happened outside an academic setting.

I know skilled contractors who make lots of money. They know how to do things, and learning how to do things correctly without killing themselves or putting others at risk took them years of apprenticeship under other skilled craftsmen.

In my own line of work, maybe 1% of what I learned in college (more years ago than I care to admit to) applies today -- the rest I've had to learn along the way, reading books and articles, researching documentation on the Web, and just plugging away until the #$!&! thing started working correctly.

Up until your post #99, I didn't know you were talking about clients rather than personal acquaintances.

One friend who’s husband beat her on a regular basis, nothing anyone could say would convince her to leave until one day he put one of the kids in the hospital.
A man does not cheat on his wife because she is not in the mood for sex, she cheats because his heart is not right.
I have never known anyone who got a divorce because the husband was boring or his career stalled or they went bankrupt.
Take that back I remember on e a woman I worked with lost a child in an accident and her husband divorced about a year later. No parent should ever have to bury a child, I think they were just able to work through the pain.
Divorce is very easy these days and I guess you could say when the government decided to define divorce it makes sense the next step was to define marriage.

“Family Lawyer.” She profits from others’ misery. Many are the worse bottom feeders of the profession. They fancy themselves some sort of heroes.

If your point is that men can make a lot of money through being smart, energetic, tenacious, and willing to take risks and work long hours in order to get to the top, then yes I am.

If your point is that men can make good money by being willing to work under unpleasant and/or dangerous conditions, go where they're needed even though it means being away from family for weeks at a time (as I've done many times), then yes I am.

If you're point is that men who are willing to hang around remote oil fields at night, walking around for hours in winter snow and sleet, to make sure things stay operating correctly can make good money(as a friend of mine does), then yes I am.

Women who are willing to go where they're needed, do what's needed at whatever hour of the day and night, and be around places where they need to carry a gun in their pocket in order to be sure they get home in good condition (as I have) can make good money too. Not that many are so willing.

Child support is not taken out if the father has been paying.

Not true. The father can make the choice to have the amount withheld from his pay and paid automatically. This varies by state though, some states you can set it up for the state themselves to pull the money and pay it for you, others you have to make the arrangement with your employer yourself.

I did this when I got my divorce in Florida. I requested that the state automatically remove it from my pay and pay it monthly. Cleared me from having to have to deal with my ex for anything involving child support.

My only responsibility was to make sure the state was informed if I changed employers.

This is from Chinnsonger.com, although I cannot vouch completely for its accuracy:

Money problems are often cited as the number one cause of divorce in America, but it’s impossible to calculate because they are part of a larger cause usually called “irreconcilable differences,” which basically means that the couple couldn’t get along. Psychologist John Gottman’s research indicates that couples divorce for two basic reasons: their foundation was inadequate at the outset of their marriage, or they lost their friendship because they couldn’t solve their conflict. It has been my experience that the latter accounts for the majority of all American divorces. Another key cause is adultery, with an estimated one quarter of all marriages dissolving for this reason. Surprisingly, very few people cite outright abuse as a cause of divorce.

I spent a few minutes doing internet research on reasons for divorce, and this was one of the better summations - amidst all of the articles full of promise but devoid of content.

If what the website says is correct, adultery is cited in about a quarter of marriages as the reason for the divorce.

My issue with your expressed opinion is that you state "The problem is that in most cases it is [adultery]...", whereas the data I have seen recently, once example of which is cited above, shows adultery is nowhere near the majority reason.

With respect to which party is the adulterer, it is often the man. I cannot find much statistical evidence to support what the actual numbers are. I do remember seeing stories about the changing demographics of adultery a few years ago, but I don't recall the numbers they spouted. Here is a startling pair of numbers I found at StatisticBrain.com:

57 percent of men admit to committing infidelity in any relationship they’ve had.

54 percent of women committing infidelity in any relationship they’ve had.

Neither of those percentages is stellar, to be sure.

We have different experiences among our respective circles of friends. In mine, it was generally the woman who started the divorce, for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

One women already had a new boyfriend when she filed, and married him soon thereafter. Another told my friend she wanted a divorce when she was on the train to another state with her new boyfriend.

Bullshit.

My wages were garnished for 10+ years for child support, in spite of the fact I was volunarily paying prior to the support court order.

It does not matter if you are a "good" father or not. The State does what the State does.
