Who Does the GOP Really Have To Run Against Hillary in 2016? (Writer is a RINO)
Daily Beast ^ | January 14, 2014 | Myra Adams

Posted on 01/14/2014 1:08:06 PM PST by C19fan

As a Republican hoping that my party will retake the White House in 2016, I watched with intense interest as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie talked and talked and talked his way out of ”Bridgegate.”

.......................................................

But what I am referring to is the Herculean task set before Christie of winning the 2016 Republican nomination given that the conservative wing and primary-controlling base voters are ferociously anti-Christie for numerous political and policy reasons, among them Medicaid expansion and gun control just for starters.

As she says, she would have liked Rick Perry more if he'd been a competent candidate. And I'd have to bet she was a Bush supporter.

So what she wants is a candidate with name-recognition and more widespread mainstream appeal, rather than somebody whose support mostly comes from those demanding ideological purity. That's not so strange or repellent a point of view, is it?

Like a lot of people -- like me -- she points out that you can't win if you don't actually have a candidate. Look, the lady runs a mail order operation called The Jesus Store. If she's GOP elite or establishment, then those words don't have any meaning anymore.

Mrs. Clinton will not be the Dems nominee. My guess is that the next Potus and his partner will be two homosexual black men. I am as serious as Cancer.

Great post, not as convinced as you are, but it’s great to read.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

But maybe this 2-day old Boston Globe article will help you be convinced just a little bit more:

Obama’s grip on younger voters slips

This article documents what is an extraordinary opportunity to blow the left and the Democrats out of power for a generation.

The GOPe is absolutely unable to take advantage of this situation. It will completely blow this chance, because all it can do is feed the existing cynicism of the millennial generation.

Only the "renegade" conservative movement is in a position to capitalize on this extraordinary opportunity.

Agree with your points. Also, by completely controlling the debates, they affect the medium to high info voters as well.

At bare minimum every debate should have one republican (even RINO) moderator. I’d insist on a conservarive, but even a RINO would be better than 100% libs.

Only those on our side know the good of Cruz. On the low informed voter side (not diehard libs, just folks who don’t pay attention to politics except what the mms tells them or their relatives), they think very low of him if they know him at all.

He would have to start now, informing the general population about constitutional conservatism and himself.

And not with a stupid book about himself. Something outside the same old box.

America is a skull-full-of mush country that has lost its way and handed itself over to the leftist activists in government, academia and the media.

Well.. you've essentially described how any country slides to the left. The mushy, disinterested, clueless types who comprise the majority or near-majority give themselves.. and the country.. over to those leftist activists. While we in the conservative sphere know the leftist model fails on every policy front, but where the left DOESN'T fail is propagating the myth that it's actually succeeding. With active accomplices in the school systems inculcating the mushheads and a leftist "media" daily reinforcing that dogma, it's no surprise we find ourselves where we are. I disagree that America's youth see the left as overbearing, mean-spirited and oppressive. Rather, they tend to express the belief that the progressive (read: communist) agenda would be more successful if its proponents were only more forceful and efficient in its application. The difficulty in campaigning against a government such as this, while offering returns to the ideals of liberty rests with the reality that rapidly increasing numbers of Americans are bringing to life the fears of Alexis de Toqueville and Benjamin Franklin that a society vastly damages itself when its citizens vote for largesse from the treasury unto themselves. We're at that point now... more Americans than ever are riding the gravy train and are liking it. The notions of "liberty," "self-determination" and "rugged individualism" are seen as arcane...having given way to the "security" of a guaranteed ladelful from the federal soup pot. While it might be doable to mount a campaign against leftist failures, Americans have to be adequately convinced the leftist agenda is a failed one. We're nowhere near that yet. Wish I could be more optimistic... after the 2012 election, I'm not seeing a reason to believe Americans are going to be willing to elect a non-democrat to the White House.
