As if it wasn’t obvious before, we now have a liberal leaning think tank blaming Senate Democrats for all the trouble the government has been having lately. Newest analysis from the Brookings Institution points directly at the Democrat-controlled Senate to blame for the congressional gridlock.

Justifying this conclusion the analysis opens with the observation that the House has passed twice as many bills as the Senate in 2013. Mostly to blame is the Senate committee process.

"When we look at this category, then, we begin to understand where the problem lies: even in the traditionally collegial Senate, 87 percent of bills die in committee," Molly Jackman and Saul Jackman, of Brookings, and Brian Boessenecker write in Politico. "While the filibuster may grab all the headlines, committees are a far deadlier weapon."

From the comments: Stonewalling by the Senate under Harry Reid's direction although blatantly obvious to all but the casual observer is always characterized as Republican obstructionism by the White House and its water carriers in the Media.

Interesting and very pertinent information. But so few know it, it becomes nearly meaningless.

Reid is just a tool of the White House; an empty shell being controlled as an automaton.

The early Nazi Party in Germany consolidated power through obstructing the Reichstag. Goering and Goebbles were central in the effort to sabotage legislation and portray their legislative body as ineffective and in need of “a leader”. Knight on white horse with funny mustache enters stage left.

“Knight on white horse with funny mustache enters stage left. “

Only this time it’s a half-breed from Kenya who, judging by his ears, had a mother that was a loving cup.

I wish it was closer to 97%

If you went out to a hundred Americans and asked them if the Senate serves any useful purpose....the overall answer is that they attend funerals, and approve the cabinet officers. Beyond that...they won’t be able to cite much of anything.

I personally think it’s time that the Senate be reshuffled...just one member per state....elected by the state. The duties ought to be limited to approval of cabinet officers, impeaching federal officers, approval of treaties, and approving Supreme Court judges. That’s it. Beyond that...they have no real purpose. These gimmick senate hearings just add drama....little else.

Once the Senate became elected by popular vote they lost much of their purpose I agree.

But having 85% of the bills die in committee to me is a worth while purpose. But like I said I would prefer it be closer to 97%.

A better purpose for the Senate would be if they only passed bills that repealed old law.
