Get Ready for One-Party Rule If GOP Wins the Senate (reaction to Mitch McConnell floor speech)
The Fiscal Times ^ | 1/16/14 | Eric Pianin

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered an extraordinary floor speech last week in which he essentially auditioned for the job of Majority Leader – the one currently held by Democrat Harry Reid of Nevada.

For 40 minutes, the Kentucky Republican who is up for reelection this year railed against Reid and the Democratic majority for a take-it-or-leave it brand of governance akin to a “permanent sort of shirts-against-skins contest.”

McConnell outlined three main reforms the Republicans would adopt if they were to win control of the Senate in November: allowing a “more robust” committee process, permitting more amendments on the floor and forcing members to work a longer week in Washington.

“I’m not here to claim that we are without fault,” McConnell declared during the speech. “But I am certain of one thing — I’m absolutely certain of one thing — that the Senate can be better than it is.”

A great many of us believe the same, Mitch, and can only imagine how much better it would have been without you pretending to be a leader before.. or even being there in the first place.

Enjoy your primary stops, Mitch.

You got some 'splainin' to do.

I’d rather see Mike Lee OR Ted Cruz OR Rand Paul as Majority Leader of the Senate. Actually I’d rather see Ted Cruz President of the United States so Lee or Paul for Majority Leader but 2 years as Majority Leader might be good for Cruz too.

What an idot - tell the opposition your battle plan before the battle has been fought.

“I’m not here to claim that we are without fault,”

He means Cruz and Lee.

“But I am certain of one thing — I’m absolutely certain of one thing — that the Senate can be better than it is.”

Yes. But would the country be better, for it?

There’s a lot to be said for gridlock. A Congress that does nothing is doing little harm.

Leadership in the senate starts with a Matt Bevin win in the primary.

I think it’s time to declare war on senility in the Senate...starting with McConnell.

There’s one-party rule in DC now—Not a dime’s worth of difference between DimocRATS and Republicans.

As a side note to RINO McConnell’s Constitution-ignoring vision for the Senate, please bear the following in mind. If the federal government was actually operating within its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, the main concern of the Senate with respect to domestic issues would be the US Mail service.

They are Republicants, not RINOs. They are proud to be called republicans when they are in fact no opposition to the democrips power mongering. Time for Tea to wash them away like weeks old food stains.

That has been the problem all along.
Democrats run roughshod over the republicans when they have a democrat majority.
Republicans "play fair" when republicans have control.

We need bold leadership that will undo all of the damage done by recent administrations, legislators, and courts. Get rid of useless agencies and outdated programs and laws.

The solution to an overgrown and unmanageable government is to reduce their size and scope. That is basic management, but still people keep trying to "fix it".

That all depends on the “Nothing” that Congress is doing.

If that means doing NOTHING about the Daily Abuses of Power that have been committed by Obama and his State Department, Labor Department, EPA, IRS and Department of Justice I take extreme exception to that.

I am not holding my breath the way the GOP is ignoring it's base. I am expecting the GOP to lose the House - the Senate the GOP might take???

Frankly, I would prefer to see Senator Ted Cruz become SENATE MAJORITY LEADER for the foreseeable future. I believe that he would be very effective in cleaning up the mess that Reid has made of things on that branch of Congress.

As for POTUS, nothing would make me happier than to see someone like Retired Marine General JAMES MATTIS get elected to that spot. After the last couple of White House Occupants, I believe that we are going to need someone of his caliber and experience to navigate us through the mess that has become our International stature.

Just my honest and humble opinion.

One party rule LOL

Over-dramatic. GOP will get even MORE blame from everyone for everything.
