University of Wisconsin Removes Bibles From Guest Rooms Following Atheist Complaint

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Extension has removed all of the Gideon Bibles from its conference center guest rooms at the urging of an atheist activist organization.

The Madison, Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) states that it received a complaint last November from a visitor to the university’s Lowell Center, who noticed the Bible in their room.

The organization then sent a letter to university officials, asserting that the placement of the Gideon Bibles violated the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution, which reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

“It is a fundamental principle of Establishment Clause jurisprudence that a government entity cannot promote, advance or otherwise endorse religion,” the letter stated. “Permitting members of outside religious groups the privilege of placing their religious literature in public university guest rooms constitutes state endorsement and advancement of these Christian publications.”

FFRF contended that if visitors want to read the Bible, they can bring their own copy during their stay, or obtain one from the library. It demanded that all Bibles be removed from the premises, and that a written response be provided regarding the matter.

They’re a cultural terrorist organization. Blame the university for capitulating.

Nice the way they use the Freedom of Religion clause to impose atheism on a state university. University of Wisconsin had no obligation to comply, but of course they are far to the left and happy to do so.

“Good heavens! A bible in the drawer! My head is going to explode!” Typical leftie reaction.

BINGO!!!
I am sick to death of cowardly Christians.
Jesus was NOT a coward.
I heard a sermon once and the pastor said “the worst thing a person can say to a Christian is: “I did not know you were a Christian”.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

I wonder if it was the FFRF or the article author who included the "prohibition" part of the amendment.

I remember back in 1978 when I was in college some group was passing out Gideon New testaments out side of a class building . I took one and said thank you. Still have it. Even them some young people were snickering. Just made me say Thank You louder. Being rude is bad manners.

There are two major tenants of atheism:

1) There is no God
and
2) I hate Him

via ITAR-TASS
Russian hotels will have Bibles in each room
Russia joins the European and world traditions according to which hotel guests have the opportunity to read the Bible in their rooms, reports the Christian Telegraph invictory.com in reference to ITAR-TASS.

On August 9th, the first 6,000 copies of the New Testament and Psalms will be transferred to one of the largest hotels in Moscow “Izmailovo,” reports ITAR-TASS citing the New Department of the Russian Orthodox Church.

This charity event is supported by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management of the Moscow Government and the Commission with the Diocesan Missionary Council of the capital.

“Actually, in every European hotel guests can find Bibles in the rooms. The Gospel is a book that has become the foundation of European culture, it is an essential feature of the respectful and hospitable attitude towards guests, as well as an indicator of the culture level of the owners of hotels,” said the chairman of the commission missionary hieromonk Dimitriy Pershin.

The funds for the publication are provided by the Foundation of St. Gregory the Theologian.
