Bevy of gun-control bills shot down in Virginia House
Virginian Pilot ^ | 1-17-14 | Bill Sizemore

The House of Delegates panel widely known as the graveyard of gun-control bills consigned a slew of them to oblivion Thursday.

The Republican-controlled subcommittee of the Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee tabled a series of gun-control measures, meaning they are unlikely to be revived.

The hours-long session delighted pro-gun forces, arrayed on one side of the room wearing "Guns Save Lives" stickers, and infuriated gun-control advocates on the opposite side wearing "Background Checks Save Lives" stickers.

Rejected by the panel were these measures, all proposed by Democrats:

-- HB812, to required universal criminal background checks for firearm purchases.

-- HB535, to extend background checks to all sales at gun shows, including those by private sellers.

-- HB823, to authorize voluntary background checks at gun shows by private sellers who request them.

-- HB809, to limit high-capacity ammunition magazines to 20 rounds.

-- HB695, to stiffen training requirements for those seeking concealed-handgun permits.

-- HB992, to allow localities to ban guns from public libraries.

Right on sargeantdave. 90% of politics is showing up. Although I’d add except for voting (I’m on the wagon).

Its amazing what several people showing up to a meeting will accomplish. Or what an email can accomplish.

Nothing left to do? Surely you jest!

Does PA have universal recognition of permits? Why do PA permits expire? Can the permit be used as ID? Why does PA not issue permits to nonresidents who don’t already have a permit? Shouldn’t the permits be issued for free?

When Alaska got CC it was because their legislature finally got tired of the incremental improvements and decided to chuck the whole thing.

IMHO, Va has plenty of conservatives but is getting hosed due to the expanding population around the beltway. And race politics are very much an issue.

The Va gop isn’t helping anything either.

In combat, it’s amazing what a correctly positioned platoon can do in killing the enemy.

Your statement is on target, buddy.

Semper fi.

Anti-gun laws are like heads of Medusa. The get a dozen knocked down this week, next week they will trot out three dozen more.

Lefties sure are good at tripling down!

Oh yeah. They never, ever give up. I think the deadline for new bills has passed for this year.

“HB992, to allow localities to ban guns from public libraries.”

So police can’t go into the library?

“So police can’t go into the library?”

Guess so. Gun grabbers are rarely logical.

A “bevy”?? Is that bigger or smaller than a bunch, a wad, a clump, a pile, tons, and lots?

Daryl Metcaff is the only Pa legislator with balls. Love him.

I hope his call to impeach that bucktoothed bitch Kane gets traction.

FOAC -Firearm owners against criminals is a good organisation that needs every ones support in Pa. Kim Stolfer, the head of FOAC is a very knowlegable and strong supporter of the RTKABA. IT is not known by a lot of people, but Kim wrote Pa’s Castle Doctrine.

nothing has happened in PA in the last six years)

The Castle Doctrine law was the first bill Gov. Corbett signed when he became governor three years ago.

Daryl Metcaff has been pushing rollbacks since the Repubs. have retaken the legislature.

Support him.

I drink beer with and belong to the same clubs as my state rep. I talk to mine all the time. We also both ride motorcycles and I see him at events. Lobby, lobby, lobby.

While I share your concerns, imagine if the Founders thought the same way you did.

“Lobby, lobby, lobby.”

Amen. It’s one part of politics that works and where conservatives can dominate.
