New Book: 'Let's Nationalize Fox News,' Let Unions Decide What's News
Truth Revolt ^ | 1/18/2014 | Trey Sanche

Just imagine! Imagine a world without Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Salon.com released an excerpt from the upcoming book "Imagine: Living in a Socialist USA" that asks its readers to do just that.

The writers of the book want a socialist America, one that would have "a democratic, accessible-to-all media" controlled by "working people [who will] collectively and individually…influence mass culture." The book abhors capitalist societies' news, which it says is "selected, organized, and presented by an army of self-important publishers, editors, and writers who…follow their corporate employers' political line."

In this new socialist society that has "erased corporate control," there will no longer be advertisements filling newspapers or commercial breaks on TV. The media would be owned by "labor unions, neighborhood associations, and cultural centers." That way, the "media can represent the interests of working people" -- not the interests of corporate sponsors. (snip)

This guide to utopia will be available January 21, 2014 for the low, low capitalist price of $15.99.

“In this new socialist society that has “erased corporate control,” there will no longer be advertisements filling newspapers or commercial breaks on TV. The media would be owned by “labor unions, neighborhood associations, and cultural centers.”

Haven’t read the book (and don’t intend to), but I’ve got to wonder if those idiots know “non-profit” union-ownership of communications has already been tried, to little effect.

Chicago’s WCFL (the call letters stand for “Chicago Federation of Labor”) was union-founded and union-owned during the Golden Age of radio - it survived to no great influence, and barely stayed on the air until it went commercial. From the Wikepedia entry on WCFL:

“While the original idea of a self-supporting WCFL was based on each Federation member’s donation of $1 a year for all station operating expenses, by 1926, 30% of the membership had donated. The donations continued to spiral downward as time passed, especially after 1928, when WCFL’s operating power was cut and it was limited to “dawn to dusk” broadcasting—from sunrise to sunset. The dawn-to-dusk operation limitations were lifted in 1929, but there was still no clear channel yet for WCFL. 1929 found the station notifying the Federation that unless members made their dollar donations, WCFL would need to implement some type of commercial broadcasting to stay afloat. This was the reason why the transmitter land had been purchased in 1928, but no construction was able to be done on the Downers Grove transmitter site until 1932. By 1930, commercials had become a reality on WCFL; the station did not show a profit until 1940.”

Sometime in the mid-sixites, a far-sighted WCFL station manager decided WLS needed some competition, hired Dick Biondi, Ron Britain, and others of their ilk, and the proletariat finally got what they wanted out of WCFL - the Stones, Jefferson Airplane and the rest of that crew. Only when the revolution devolved to commercials, pop music and insane DJ’s did the “Voice of Labor” (as they called themselves) have any kind of viability.

And then once WCFL became a station you’d actually set on your car radio, they sold it to Mutual.

Salon is another product of the Clinton years. They came to be as rabid protectors of anything Clinton and deep hatred of anything conservative.

As I tell my young friends, who are now starting to “get it,” the problem with communism can be seen with the problems of Obamacare. In order for it to work, in order for any socialist program to work, you must remove the freedom of choice. And the freedom to choose is what defines a free society. Government mandate is what defines a master-slave or totalitarian society.

Obamacare has been an eye-opening experience for many young people.

While intended to be a socialist state starting out, modern Israel is nothing like the socialist countries of the Soviet bloc nations. Emigres from the Soviet Union had the hardest time of any emigres from other non-Soviet countries. Israel expected them to do more for themselves.

Their system was hopelessly outdated. If they were still around you could have what you had back then, a home land line telephone with perhaps two outlets installed by an AT&T employee, and nothing more.

This means as 56k baud modem, no cell phones, etc. But by now, your home phone might have a still image picture of the person you were talking to, that would refresh every half minute or so. Something they promised for 30 years but never delivered.

Face it, when that monster was killed, the future could begin.

“The free enterprise system demands that you act as an adult.”

I’m 81 years old and there isn’t enough time in a day to list all of the freedoms that have been lost since I was young.

Leftist voters are allergic to work and can't relate.

Let me extend that to "allergic to real work"... Unions are part of the leftist coalition. Union members in the private sector work, but they want exclusionary, above market compensation. Union members in government (SEIU, NEA, etc) do relatively less work. The common alliance is of the government-affiliated rich and those who want more for their work than it is worth. I guess that includes the chronically and happily unemployed as well as those voluntarily on welfare.

I’m 64. Tell me the freedoms that you’ve lost. You’re still a lot freer than just about anywhere else.

Someone who spent time in East Germany during that period said about the same thing. Individual initiative was virtually non-existent. Unfortunately, our Political class seeks to cultivate this because it will keep them in power. They think there will always be innovators and companies like Apple & Starbucks regardless of what happens to the culture. They are wrong.

In a "socialist America," the media will be owned by the State, just like everything else. This is the Left's answer to "monopoly." Oh, and strikes against this one and only employer will not be tolerated.

Ordinary people will run nothing, since the vast majority of ordinary people aren't left wing eggheads.

Anyone want to watch Ed Schultz 24-7? I mean, he’s unintentionally amusing but that would be a little too much.

Let me remind you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_Labs

“Bell Laboratories operates its headquarters at Murray Hill, New Jersey, and has research and development facilities throughout the world. Researchers working at Bell Labs are credited with the development of radio astronomy, the transistor, the laser, the charge-coupled device (CCD), information theory, the UNIX operating system, the C programming language, S programming language and the C++ programming language. Seven Nobel Prizes have been awarded for work completed at Bell Laboratories.”

Yep... backwards thinking and incapable.

“You’re still a lot freer than just about anywhere else.”

THAT’S your measure of freedom? That somehow you are “freer” than someplace else? We are either free from tyranny or we are not, and we are not.

Freedoms we have lost:

1. The right to travel without sexual assault and strip searches by government agents.

2. “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures”, as our government spies on us and consumes our private communications.

3. The right to remain silent, as the US Supreme Court recently rules our silence can now be used against us in court.

4. The right not to be forced to buy anything as the US Supreme Court has stated the government can force us to buy things and call it a tax.

Boy, I could go on and on and on, but you’ll just make excuses for it all.

....pubbies should help Castro by buying all dims a plane ticket to Havana...........there they can see what “socialism” has wrought first hand, and talk to some of it’s victims...................

........and offer any of them (the Dems) that want to stay $1,000 to do so. I have read that brain surgeons make 22 dollars per month and usually there is no bread or milk in the store but hey!.........the libs can ride their bikes and lose weight.

I recommend to ALL getting on Google Earth and just flying around down there at about 2,000 feet altitude. You can see all the evidence you need of how wonderful socialism is. Start with the airport. See what a busy bustling place it is. /s

...the "media can represent the interests of working people" .

Oddly enough - the Left currently represents more and more people who are not working.

FOX network to be used like in The Truman Show, with Ø in the role of Truman Burbank. Except, of course, he knows he’s on live TV all the time, and loves it. It would be beamed across the globe, with appropriate ad placements to pay for it [operators are standing by...]. The Foremost Mission of NASA would be changed once again, from muslim outreach, to sole coverage of FOXHaven, as the network gets a fresh name.

The Mooch playing the role of Meryl, naturally. Reggie Love as Sylvi... I mean Lauren.

How is it going to End?

Where would the money come from to pay all these wonderful union workers?

The govt, course. We would then have state controlled media.
