Militant Islamist rebels in Syria linked to Al-Qaeda have asked for understanding and forgiveness for cutting off and putting on display the wrong mans head.
In a public appearance filmed and posted online, members of Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham, one brandishing a knife, held up a bearded head before a crowd in Aleppo. They triumphantly described the execution of what they said was a member of an Iraqi Shia militia fighting for President Bashar Al-Assad.
But the head was recognised from the video as belonging to a member of Ahrar Al-Sham, a Sunni Islamist rebel group that often fights alongside ISIS though it does not share its Al-Qaeda ideology.
After inquiries, an ISIS spokesman admitted he was Mohammed Fares, an Ahrar commander reported missing some days ago. This could not be independently confirmed, but in an earlier video of a speech by Mr Fares he bears a close resemblance to the severed head in the later video. The Syrian Observatory of Human Rights, which monitors deaths in the Syrian conflict, and several activists on social media, said that ISIS misunderstood comments that the man made referring to the Imams Ali and Hussein, the founding fathers of Shiism.
The ISIS spokesman, Omar Al-Qahtani, made reference to a story in which Mohammed said Allah would forgive a man who killed a believer in error. He said that Mr Fares had been injured and, thinking he had been captured by members of the Shia militia against which he was fighting, asked them to kill him in terms misunderstood by the ISIS members when in fact he meant taking him to hospital.

Christianity builds. Islam (at least the fundamentalist kind, if we are not talking about some tolerant, heterodox variant) destroys.
In before I hate when that happens!
No fair, Allah!
What difference, at this point, does it make? /HDRC

In the Muslim world, “giving head” has a whole different meaning.
Ah, he took one for the team! He gets a virgin that the mistake maker loses.
Oh, you!
One has to wonder what would qualify as barbaric activity to these individual tyrants.
Nothing is out of bounds. They stone their own daughters if they are raped. They savagely mutilate their genitalia with the intent of making sure they can't experience an orgasm. They kill men, women, boys, and girls at will. They cut off the heads of people who merely think differently than they do.
So what is barbaric to them? Is it anything that they can think up that offends Mohammad?
Evidently getting raped offends Mohammad. Evidently breathing offends Mohammad. Evidently keeping your genitalia if you're a woman offends Mohammad. Evidently keeping your virginity passed the age of seven offends Mohammad. Evidently not having the exact same understanding of certain issues offends Mohammad.
The members of the religion of peace, behead others at will. Pray tell, what is worse than that, and yet these people have convinced themselves they are the Godly, and those who don't cut off other people's heads are the infidels.
Knocking out a 100 story plus building in New York is an honorable act, but retaliation is evil.
Raping a woman is okay. Being raped is a capital offense. Men can pick a seven year old child, and marry them. Now that is enlightened.
My God has wrath too, but at least there is some reason behind it that any sentient being could grasp and understand. What god would demand the life of a raped woman, as the reasonable and justified penalty? What god could demand her to forgo the most intimate of feelings she could experience with the man she loved?
I pity the followers of such a god, for that god would have to be evil incarnate.
This, besides the specific stupidity of the incident, highlights a more basic defect of the Islamists strategy.
If they actually intend to win they should be taking prisoners and treating them well. That should encourage surrenders among their enemies. I gather that most of them, even in the leadership, aren’t in this to win. The war is the goal, not the victory.
My particular boss was not broadminded and I never said he was. He was EXTREMELY kind. He was unlettered and so developed an extraordinary memory.
I never did say that Muslims were broad minded either.
The religious zealots always seemed to be younger men.
During the beginning of the Muslim year, via the Muslim calendar, these Shi'ite Muslim young men would beat up on themselves in a frenzy of self-punishment. The Saudi government didn't like this and would send troops to beat the HOLY PIE out of them.
The Islamic calendar, Muslim calendar or Hijri calendar (AH)is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days.
It is used to date events in many Muslim countries (concurrently with the Gregorian calendar), and used by Muslims everywhere to determine the proper days on which to observe the annual fast (see Ramadan), to attend Hajj, and to celebrate other Islamic holidays and festivals.
The first year was the Islamic year beginning in A.D. 622 during which the emigration of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijra, occurred. Each numbered year is designated either H for Hijra or AH for the Latin anno Hegirae (in the year of the Hijra); hence, Muslims typically call their calendar the Hijri calendar.
The current Islamic year is 1435 A.H. In the Gregorian calendar 1435 AH runs from approximately 3 November 2013 (evening) to 23 October 2014 (evening).
Most of Saudi Arabia is Sunni Muslim but the Eastern Province, right near the Arabian/Persian Gulf, happened to have a sizable Shi'ite population.
In town (Rahima) there were mutawahs that, we heard, got after foreigners who were inappropriately dressed. We never saw them. I looked for them, but the Saudis aren't people who LIKE to look for trouble. They would MUCH rather sit around, in their own gender, drink tea and talk for hours.
It was really WAY too hot to anything else.
Starting in April the air temperature would rise. It got to 117 degrees by mid summer. At the Gulf, where we lived, the water temperature AND humidity were 95 degrees and % respectively.
November was the only pleasant month.
During the three winter months, December-February, the area experienced the "hamzeens"--WIND blowing in from the north. It was cooler but the sky was FILLED with sand. Nasty weather all the time.
I was told that southeast Asia was the only place on the planet that had worse weather.
It rained for two hours ONE day ONLY in all the five years I was there. Two hours of rain in FIVE long years.
Dry, dry, dry.
You have such a great point that you need to go into digression?
Measure twice; cut once.
Islam often mirrors a warpage of Biblical mores.
“In principle” a raped Islamic woman could be acquitted, but the standard to acquit is ridiculously high (four male Islamic witnesses to the rape have to have warned the rapist not to do it).
Even the Old Testament system was kinder (two or three witnesses to a crime was needed — one witness and the accused went scot free).
Heads get chopped off for murder.
Hands get chopped off for REPEATED theft.
There IS a women's prison for the Saudi women. Foreign women get sent home...HUGE loss for them, at the Saudis pay INDECENTLY high wages to Americans. Almost NO other women are over there to live besides American women.
I always considered myself a third gender because we got SUCH preferential treatment.
Saudi women control the marriage market. THEY decide who marries whom. Their bailiwick is the home. They have power. Don't kid yourself. Also, if said Saudi women are from monied families, smart, beautiful and nice they have it MADE. If they are poor, stupid, ugly and mean, they ought to give it up and move to Poughkeepsie.
The standard for guilt or innocence is so high and warped that it makes NO SENSE to anyone else on the planet.
I think that what makes their world go round is money, power, status and fame. :o) Duh.
Did you ever watch Saudi T.V. and foreign Arab women singers? Those women were FAMOUS!
But, then, WHO in the world cares?
Are you insinuating that I am verbose?
WHAT?!?! How DARE you!!
Major duh.
Is there a pistol to your head forcing you to read my verbocity?
But thanks. I do feel LESS chatty some days.
Eeze fine
No prawluhms...
In Shala...
Go Denver!!!
