‘We Still Stand by What We Believe’: Bakers Who Refused to Make a Gay Wedding Cake Double Down
The Blaze ^ | January 20, 2014 | Billy Hallowell

Officials in Oregon have ruled that Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a bakery that made national news after refusing to make a cake for a gay wedding last year, violated a lesbian couple’s civil rights.

Owners Aaron and Melissa Klein, Christians who oppose same-sex unions, reacted to the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries’ ruling in an interview with KATU-TV, telling the outlet that they stand by their convictions.

“We still stand by what we believe from the beginning,” ( said Aaron Klein). “I’m not sure what future holds, but as far as where we’re at right now … it’s almost as if the state is hostile toward Christian businesses.”

In the Sacred Writings—Jesus ,that Rabbi from Nazareth, was teaching In Judea, beyond the Jordan, and a group of Pharisees approached Him asking about divorce. “He answered and said unto them”Have you not read that He who made them in the beginning made them male and female, and said ‘ For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife, and the two shall become one flesh...” Matthew 19: 4-5 .This passage of Scripture has been accepted and reflected in Civil Ceremonies before a local Judge in Colorado Where same-sex Marriage was NOT recognized. Now—as I understand it the case in Oregon—the State there did Not recognize same-sex marriage. So this is very much a case about a government divorced from the rule of law that has chosen to reject the history and the Law concerning Marriage. in favor of making us all to be as Sodom and like unto Gomorrah. WHY escapes me having read of that example. I have NEVER seen ANY compelling State interest in recognizing same-sex marriage.

They make cakes for weddings. If there isn’t a wedding, they don’t have to make a wedding cake. In this case there isn’t a wedding, because there isn’t a man and a woman wedding. A man and a man pretending to we’d doesn’t make the act a wedding. Thus, no obligation to make a wedding cake.

How about bringing in a homosexual baker to make the cake?
You avoid the fight, and still get the business. Oh, by the way, “Your cake will be $17,000. Our queer baker is in high demand in other cities”.

With these laws, private businesses no longer have the right to refuse service to certain groups of people based on religion, ethnicity, race and even sexual deviancy. There is no more freedom.

A civilization can endure only if its citizens can exclude people that can not or will not abide by the customs, morals, and mores of that civilization. The so-called "civil rights" laws made that illegal.

The goal of those "civil rights" laws has always been to wreck Western civilization. Look to Detroit or any of our other once fine cities for the intended results.

No different than if they wanted to refuse service to a person based on their politics ...

Something else I have no problem with. The current state of the law in this former Republic is abysmal.

"This is King day"

I survived yet another of this superfluous assigned day of so called conservatives from Rush to Beck to Levin to Hannity making fools of themselves and being ignorant..."

I am, quite simply, sick to death of the fawning over MLK.

I often hear the reluctant admission that he was a "flawed" man, usually prior to more gushing praise. Well, if that's all he was, then we need to be consistent and apply that mild term to people like John Kerry. Like Kerry, MLK called our troops war criminals. He said the American government was the biggest purveyor of violence in the world, that it had committed more war crimes than any other. He was an open apologist for the Communist regime in Vietnam.

Presidents' Day is next month. We'll see plenty of furniture stores and car dealerships running sales featuring cartoons of Washington and Lincoln. Fine. Yet even if MLK had not been murdered, we would never see his likeness used to sell goods or services. The outrage would be thunderous.

The tyranny of political correctness is embraced even by some conservatives.

I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. When you decide to become a “fee for service” business - you have to take on all comers. Black Letter law, affirmed by SCOTUS - goes back to Civil Rights days ... They either have to suck it up - or close their business. No different than if they wanted to refuse service to a person based on their politics ...

Fact. The States own constitution (rightly) discriminates against homosexuals by refusing to recognize gay marriage, which is what the baker refused to do. The judge thus indicted the States constitution as violating the law, because a subsequent law added sexual orientation (south) to the an nondiscrimination law.

Fact: The baker offered to sell them other things but not a custom work of art specifically celebrating a moral abomination.

Fact: If a black baker, sign-maker or artist refused to make a custom sign celebrating a KKK convention,

or a Muslim for the birth of Israel, or refused to make hot dog rolls, then it is very unlikely the bakers/sign makers/artists would be found guilty.

Fact: The homosexual lobby has duped the willing into believing the same rights as belong to non moral aspects race and skin color are given also belongs to a behavior have.

there is a religious institution exemption. Is this not forcing this owner to join a church of homosexuals?

We are governed by consent.

That used to be true. Now FedGov is trying to prevent us from being informed of their activities by people like Snowden, and there cannot be legal consent without that consent being informed. FedGov is losing its legitimacy and moving toward governing by coercion and punishment, a carrot and stick approach that is completely unamerican.

I do think there's quite a difference between accommodating people with a certain skin color not of their own choosing versus freely chosen political or religious beliefs, particularly where the accommodation requires a business owner to effectively surrender their belief in deference to the contrary view of their customer.

God bless you for the intelligent analysis. The problem is that as said, the right to a behavior, or celebration related to that, is equated with skin color, etc.

And discrimination against sodomy now means a refusal to help affirm it.

The judge in this case would have to fine a vegean or PETA baker for not making a cake to celebrate a butcher shop opening. What would be the chance of that?

Zactly. What we really need here is a plaintiff willing and able to go the distance. I have heard the baker is not pursuing his rights. Probably an economic decision. But it hurts the rest of us. Someone needs to talk him into going for it. Lots to work with there. I’d love to see the gay lobby playing defense for a change. Maybe even Rico. That would be a blast.

So, you are saying that if a graphic design firm is approached by a pornographer, they have to create pornography for them?

If it was legal, the judge would, to be consistent. And other examples abound. Would a homosexual baker be charged for refusing to make a custom cake celebrating the anniversary of the AFA ?

Yep. We need a conservative equivalent of the ACLU that will prosecute (or defend) these cases pro bono. The Thomas More Law Center has a great track record for defending conservative causes, but they’ve never taken on a homo case that I know of.

I’d be glad to contribute to such an organization.

“take on ALL comers”?

So if the KKK came in and wanted a cake that said “We Should All Hate N****RS, the bakery would have to make it for them?

LOL! Yes, that would be perfect. Odds of it happening? Preeeetty low. Well, unless we could get the litigious equivalent of a James O’keefe to stage a case just like that (like the aclu used to do all the time). Think of the messaging value! The attorneys could rise above it, but the average lib hearing about this would be getting some serious cognitive dissonance out of it. Find the right analogy, and you can make your point even with a lefty, if they’re not yet hardened beyond hope. I’ve seen it happen.

I suppose one could try jury nullification.

In the meantime, Conservatives, where is the SUPPORT FUND for these embattled people who will probably lose everything while standing on the Constitution.

Part of the problem is the need for the Christian bakers to announce why they won’t do it.

They need to have a form that needs to be filled out. With the occasion, names of the people if its a wedding, other particulars. And at the bottom a statement that the form is binding.

So the names can’t be changed later.

When someone comes in they are given the form to fill out and told to place it in a basket and someone will contact them soon as to whether the bakery is able to comply, depending on their bookings.

You weed out the ones you don’t want to do by calling and saying you are booked up and unable to provide the service, and maybe even give them a name of a different bakery that might be able to accommodate them.

Stop giving them ammunition.
