HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — A Mexican national was executed Wednesday night in Texas for killing a Houston police officer, despite pleas and diplomatic pressure from the Mexican government and the U.S. State Department to halt the punishment.

Edgar Tamayo, 46, received a lethal injection for the January 1994 fatal shooting of Officer Guy Gaddis, 24.

Asked by a warden if he had a final statement, he mumbled "no" and shook his head. As the lethal dose of pentobarbital began taking effect, he took a few breaths and then made one slightly audible snore before all movement stopped. He was pronounced dead 17 minutes after the drug was administered, at 9:32 p.m. CST.

Tamayo never looked toward Gaddis' mother, two brothers and two other relatives who watched through a window. He selected no witnesses of his own.

20 years more life than his victim got. That’s more than enough wait time for me.

The message must be sent. Mexicans who come here and kill people will go home in a box just like Americans. Don’t like it? Then don’t come here.

Finally! Now his REAL trial can take place. Pretty sure Officer Gaddis will be the chief prosecution witness.

When I heard about this today it got me to wondering how long it’s been that Mexico has banned the death penalty and if they still had it maybe this drug cartel violence would not be such a problem. Just a thought.

Yep. Come here LEGALLY as a person of good character, and we'll welcome you.

Act like the thieving murderous thug you are who sneaked across the border, and you'll get some justice.

Hope this gets BIG play in the Mexican media.

Maybe it will send some chills up some illegal's spines.

Don't LIKE America's laws? Don't break them.

Better yet, just don't come here in the first place.

It was delayed pending the SCOTUS acting. The article I had posted made it sound like it was postponed.

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/mexican-citizen-set-die-texas

SCOTUS refused to halt execution of Mexican citizen in Texas

Late Wednesday, the scheduled execution was briefly halted. The US Supreme Court was considering an appeal for a stay, and Jason Clark, of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, told reporters it is Texas policy to hold off on executions while the High Court mulls an appeal.

But the Supreme Court then said it would refuse to stay the execution. The warrant would have expired at midnight; Tamayo was put to death at 9:32 C.T.
