scare chyron across the bottom of the screen that laments “GUBERNATORIAL RACE GETS UGLY EARLY”.

Any time the liberals (root word liberty{WTF}) have to face the truth it gets ugly.

".....a third-rate strip joint in Bismark, North Dakota"

The chain of clubs known as "Deja Vu" advertises "Thousands of beautiful girls and three ugly ones."

Could be Mika's shot at the big time.

Why are socialists in America called “liberals?” Simple - because they wanna be called that - and because the journalists who do the labeling are socialists.

The term “liberal” is probably still applied to people who believe in liberty outside the US; my daughter taught English in Venezuela some years back, and it was still the case there then. She said it was disorienting. And (as you implied) it was so in the US until the 1920s. The Austrian economist FA von Hayek learned English in America just before the 1920s started - and he was teaching in London when he wrote The Road to Serfdom during WWII. In Serfdom. Hayek used the term “liberal” as a positive political label throughout - and, when he did a book tour in America he was dismayed to learn what had happened to the term here since he had left. According to Safire’s New Political Dictionary, the meaning of the term was changed - essentially inverted - in the 1920s. By the thirties FDR used the term unselfconsciously to refer to his own philosophy - which as we all know was actually socialistic.
