By FOX NEWS - The State Department is telling American athletes competing in the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics to avoid wearing team gear outside the games' venues amid growing concerns over terrorist threats in the Russian resort town, The Wall Street Journal reported.

“Asked if Americans would be safe if they traveled to the Winter Games, Kirby said, “I believe the Russian government is taking this very, very seriously, and I believe they are applying as much energy as possible to providing security for the Games.”

I came back from VN in August '68 through Travis and was never advised to change uniforms.
I also wonder how $hit-bags throwing bags of $hit would be tolerated at any airport, let alone an AF base?

I think the media is planting these scare stories to punish Russia for their stand against gays.

If Obama had his way, he would have boycotted the Games. So the next best thing is to plant so much fear, that nobody wants to go.

My return was in 1972. Outside the main gate and perimiter fences all sorts of unsavory types had set up shanty towns. We were also advised that they threw garbage, crap and urine at any available target in uniform.

The people processing us through the terminal told us to change into civilian clothes if we were leaving the base or if we were going on commercial flights originating in SFO.

FYI I also saw the same tactics at RAF Greenham Commons years later when we were deploying the GLCMs (Ground Launched Cruise Missiles) there. At least the British added nude women to the deal although they were hairy and probably smelled bad.

Yeah, things were different by '72, but nevertheless, how/why were scumbags allowed anywhere near the place?
Also, since Travis was an AF base, 99% of the people coming and going would be military. How could putting om civvies mask that?

The only good that I can see coming out of this simply horrible situation is this.

Finally, finally will the rest of the world realize the scope of Islamic terror? Sure the whole thing may be written off as the desire of a separate state for Chechnya. This simply a Russian problem.

If the Russians take a black eye over the winter games- what then? I may be overstating the problem, but the fanatics of Islam may be coming for the whole lot of us.

Praying that the wiser heads who have power in the Islamic world will eventually deter these psychopathic murderers.
