A group of Arizona Republicans plan to introduce a resolution at their state party meeting this weekend accusing Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) of betraying the GOP, according to a report in The Arizona Republic.
The conservative faction says McCain has had a “long and terrible record of drafting, co-sponsoring and voting for legislation best associated with liberal Democrats.”
The resolution accuses McCain of promoting the idea of "amnesty” in efforts to legislate comprehensive immigration reform in Congress. The measure also criticizes McCain for not joining the campaign to defund ObamaCare in October, which led to the government shutdown.
“We have found it necessary that he needs to be censured and reprimanded publicly for his going AWOL from the principles he signed onto,” Timothy Schwartz, the resolution’s author, recently told a state CBS affiliate. Schwartz serves as the GOP chairman in an Arizona state district. Supporters must collect hundreds of signatures for the resolution to be debated or voted on at the meeting Saturday in Tempe, Schwartz told the local paper.
Just two weeks ago, the GOP’s arm in Arizona’s Maricopa County approved the resolution 1,150 to 351.
“He voted to raise the debt ceiling against Republican principles; he wanted to fund ObamaCare. The list is long. He’s always working with liberal Democrats and not with people in his own party,” Schwartz told the CBS affiliate.
Neither McCain nor his office have commented on the resolution, The Arizona Republic said. His office did not respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
McCain has served in the Senate for 26 years and has not yet decided whether he plans to seek a sixth term in 2016.

Conservatives were trying to close the primary here the last time he screwed the state, but national R’s kiboshed the effort. Even with open primaries, he spent a stratospheric $20/vote winning the primary.
This should tell you something about the guy. Conservatives held their nose and sent him money in 08, feeling that he be slightly the lesser evil than Obama. He kept the money, endorsed Obama, whiffed the election, then used conservative money to beat back conservative primary challengers!
It was shocking — watching him in that race, you saw that he DID know how to run like he wanted to win, but only when it would result in screwing his contributors and constituents. When it would have helped them (a little), he was a wet dishrag. Putz. Oxygen thief. Azzhole.
If he could get his fingers to do it, he likely would just flip off the AZ group. He’s old, rich, and unaccountable; what does he care?
Just reading that censure made my heart sing. Any push back against this sad loon has been a long time coming, and well deserved. He has been a delinquent forever, but has dissolved into treachery.
And they say Christie is a bully. McVAIN has several years on Christie.

The very fact that mc cain has been in office for so long says that there’s enough republicans in Arizona that willingly back mc cain and his ideology. McCain is a symptom, not a cause.
Real Arizonans don't re elect him. Its the damn liberals and their students in the Universities. Heads full of mush and pockets full of their daddy's hard earned money you see them demonstrating almost every weekend for some Marxist cause or another. Now another group, displaced Californians with their socialist ideas are starting to influence the state politics here too.

I think that McCain has seen his last reelection—and he KNOWS it. If Little Lindsey Graham is defeated in this year’s primary/run-off, the message will have been sent loudly and clearly to all RINOs in “red states”.

Very true. That screwed up run for the Presidency should have removed ALL doubt from the minds of the ‘undecided’.
That they then went and reelected him to the Senate just shows how much NO ONE learned.
If not a ‘law’ law, there should be an unwritten law that once the person gets nominated and starts his campaign for the next higher office, he/she should resign so that
A/ He/She can put full time and attention to running and
B/ The Constituents can be fully represented while their Senator/Congressman/Dog Catcher is running for Pres or VP.
Since we don’t encourage that, the least the candidate should do is have his prospective cabinet picked prior to the election....his picks (other than VP) would not have to resign.
If nothing else, Bob Dole did the right thing by giving up his seat.
The GOP deserves to be betrayed.

Well, I guess we’ll see this year, won’t we? It won’t be easy, but a lot of us are determined to support the effort in whatever way we can.
But I can tell you one thing, defeatism and pessimism are not winning tactics. We must do all we can to encourage our fellow Tea Party folks in this struggle and try not to discourage them.
Try a little optimism—you might actually like it. There are many places where optimism is NOT unrealistic and South Carolina is definitely one of these places.

McCain AND the GOP have betrayed conservatives, but to say McCain has betrayed the GOP just shows that one does not quite understand the reality of the current political system.
What crappy reporting! “A group of Arizona Republicans?” Who the heck is that? A club? A precinct? A group of guys playing Poker one Friday night??
In fact, Arizona has that law, it's called "Resign to Run." As soon as you announce a run for another office, you're finished (unless it's already within a year of your reelection). Problem is, it only applies to state offices, not federal ones.
They keep voting him into office!
