Richard Sherman's on-field celebration in the NFC Championship Game has come at a cost.

I wonder why they didn’t just round it off to $7,900 or maybe $8,000........I hate writing “Seven Thousand eight hundred seventy-five dollars and 00/cents” on a check.......
I don’t think he writes a check, rather it’s withheld from his game check by the team and sent to the NFL.
Actually it was money well spent. This guy is way more famous now than he was a week ago. Actually a pretty interesting fellow. Watch his YouTube press conferences.
Having to write $7,875.00 then Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy Five and no cents is the punishment. The amount isn’t even walking around money.
A random fine generator?
I was thinking it was a $7890 violation.
That’s just chicken-s—t money to him.
Sherman only makes 550K right now.
NFL Management = IDIOTS
It’s a league full of players that don’t see anything wrong with breaking out the self-congratulatory gyrations and chest slapping after even moderately successful plays. The cool players can’t self police the dancing jerk wads even if they wanted to, so fruity capering and posing is now the norm. NBA has the same thing, the penalty system, modern officiating and multiple reviewable replay angles make self policing impossible. NFL also has so few games in a season no one can risk the outcome of a single game over policing gyrating celebrations.

There’s a reason no one is making a choke sign to a pitcher after drawing a walk.

I do not understand why he was fined. All I have heard this week has been how smart and classy he is.
Why he even graduated from Stanford with a 3.9 grade point ave.
Even Greta apologized for making a “hasty decision” when she called him a thug.
In todays NFL, for every Peyton Manning, there seems to be 50 or so Richard Shermans. Damn few class acts.
By pro football standards that is not in the top 50%. But by any other standard 550K aint chump change.
Hey, what’s a little ‘roid-raging rant among friends?
I’m surprised there was any fine even though at least the taunting aspect was against the rules. Once the racial angle was brought in I’m sure whatever punishment was being considered was seriously reduced.
Just wondering, where does all the money go for these fines that are imposed on NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. players? Anyone know? Because someone’s always getting fined, and its usually in the tens of thousands of dollars. That’s gotta add up.
The NFL gives the funds from player fines to various charities.
“All on-field fine money collected by the NFL is used for charitable purposes. These funds have been used to support retired player programs, including the NFL Player Care Foundation and NFLPA Players Assistance Trust; disaster relief initiatives; and health-related charities.”
That was a good question, I didn’t know either. This is from a 2010 NFL communications statement.

The fine is for his on-the-field taunting of Crabtree during game-time and is appropriate; the NFL frowns on ratcheting up the rhetoric ^in the game^ to where some ugliness may result.
As for Sherman’s post game rant...well, all I can say is that the media ought to think twice about sticking a microphone in the face of someone who (i) just broke up the biggest pass play of his season and, then (ii) was caught taunting the opposition over that same play.
Adrenalin is a harsh mistress and the media should know better. Really, next time catch up with him in the tunnel or locker-room.
Overall, FOX was stupid to go for the “instant” interview. Lesson learned? (prollynot)
As of last Sunday:
(i) “thug” has become a dog-whistle for racism.
(ii) “dog-whistle is a racist comparison (thank you Mohammed, piss be upon hi).
No win-win, only lose-lose for the “crackah” population...which is about 80% of the NFL demographic.
