Sen. Tim Scott Sees Bright 2014 for Conservatives

Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) gave an optimistic speech at the Republican National Committee’s Annual Winter Meeting Friday, simultaneously challenging the president’s record while touting conservatives’ ideal opportunity of taking hold of the government reins in 2014.

Scott started by criticizing Obama and the Democrats for failing to tackle the nation’s economic disparity when they had full control of both houses:

“Where was their remedy for poverty then? They focused on health care instead."

He then listed off some discouraging numbers since President Obama has taken office. For instance, he pointed out the fact that the government is now shelling out $666 billion on non-defense discretionary spending. But, despite Big Government's excessive spending, Scott sees a happy ending:

“In the end, we win. 2014 is the year the Republican Party takes back the US Senate.”

The senator also thinks the “Great Opportunity Party,” as he calls it, is beginning to expand thanks to the other side’s lack of direction:

“Independent voters are looking to the Republican Party. The welcome mat is out.”

Scott used a personal story to demonstrate how conservatives can win more hearts and minds. Explaining the scene of his near-fatal car crash when he was in high school, the senator shared how a first responder rushed to comfort him after the shock of the accident. This kind of compassion for constituents, he explained, will help Republicans win votes.

"If we win people, elections will take care of themselves."

In keeping with his optimistic theme, he ended the speech on a high note:

“Every problem seems to culminate with a promise. Let’s rewrite history for the greatest nation on earth.”

Correction: An earlier version of this post read that Tim Scott was a U.S. representative. He is a U.S. senator.

AMNESTY is probably the only thing that could really screw it. IMHO.

2014 is crucial if we can’t make significant conservative takeovers, 2016 will not matter.

Did I say SIGNIFICANT!

Which is why the GOP is pushing for it... makes sense, right?

Is it racist for this boring, white, middle-aged woman to have rock-star crushes on the AWESOME black Conservatives we have out there these days?

*SWOON* These men are speakin’ my language!

That’s what they said about the 2012 elections. No one could possibly lose to a president as incompetent as BHO. But the GOP managed to pull out defeat from victory.

True, about the only thing "Inevitable" about Mr. Mitt "Inevitable Winner" Romney, was that he was the only GOP Candidate guaranteed to lose against the worst possible Democrat nominee (Obama) they could put up.

2012 should be an object lesson for the GOP. Don't nominate a Progressive Liberal Republican or you lose, period.

Sadly, I can guarantee that they learned nothing and will try the same nonsense again in 2016.

Yes, I am expecting the nomination of “Juan McCain Version 3.0,” without any meaningful ability to stop it. Version 3.0, who will probably be some decrepit U.S. Senator who knows he can go back to his lifetime Senate seat, will make some flowery speeches and then will proceed to roll over.

Where was their remedy for poverty then?

Where is his remedy for poverty now? We're not going to beat the Democrats with platitudes. We need to present specific plans and explain exactly why they'll work.

Being specific is the surest route to losing. Clever sound bites and meaningless clichés are about the limit to what the average voter of today can absorb.

They better be making plans to get rid of Boehner, Ryan and Cantor.

I don’t think the GOP-e is going to get rid of anyone. The GOP-e controls the primaries.

So our meaningless clichés vs. their meaningless clichés. And may the best spinmeister win.
