Sochi Update: Russia to Punish Families of Potential Terrorists

Gitmo is a vacation paradise compared to what the Russians have planned for terrorists ...
In what may have been borrowed from the Israeli playbook, Russia has made it abundantly clear to wannabe martyrs for Mohammed — if you kill yourself in a terrorist attack, your family will face the consequences ... and pay dearly.
In a story that has slowly become known to the West since the bloody Islamic Jihadist attack on a school in Beslan, Russia in 2004, and most recently in Volgograd (the former Stalingrad of World War II fame), the Moscow authorities are cracking down in a fashion that have more than a few American and European Beta Males squirming in their jammies.
Sources ranging from the Wall Street-friendly Business Insider to the very left-of-center Think Progress to the US Government-ran Stars and Stripes have all noted a strategy that may not suit all palates, especially those of well-fed and even more protected self-proclaimed civil libertarians.
Described by some as "heavy-handed," authorities from the Russian Federation have ordered that no protests or rallies that coincide with the Olympics will be tolerated.
Period. Full stop. No further discussion.

When one is at war, and the terrorists are at war with the society around them, you do what is necessary to try and end it or you will lose your culture and become like them.
It’s a smart and just move.
The Saudis bragged that they could guarantee the security of the Sochi games if only the Russians agreed to abandon Assad. No doubt the Russians were amused and informed the Saudis that they would indeed be held accountable for any terrorism at Sochi. Just to accentuate their point they have stationed for or five of their submarines armed with all sorts of cruise missiles off the coasts of Saudi Arabia.

I certainly hope Obama doesn’t do this to us any time soon, no matter how smart and just he may say it is as he rounds up Christians and conservatives for the camps

Then your solution is to tolerate the bombings, because you’re not going to be able to punish a guy that is already in pieces.
It’s how Middle Eastern culture works and it’s why the West doesn’t a good response to bombings and it’s why the West will probably lose.

I note you take no exception to the sentiment, only the turn of phrase used to express it...

After I saw your post I went back and read the article again. The title, which says potential terrorists’ families will be punished, is misleading. If you read on, it says “wannabe martyrs for Mohammed” have been warned it will happen to anyone who sets off a suicide bomb.
It was the only thing that brought down Pablo Emilio Escobar. He killed families of those who opposed him. Finally they returned the favor.
Putin is correct to take this with utmost seriousness and clarity. That is how the jihadists will be as they continue their hidden work toward our destruction. My question to Putin is, if a family member sees their brother of son becoming radicalized, do they get a ‘finder’s fee’, or a chance to escape prosecution if they tattle? I hope to never be in a similar situation as that relative, regardless of what the law promises.
Don’t forget cash payoffs to families of suicide bombers.

I don’t get your point, I posted on what needed to be addressed, the simple statement of his opinion about Putin didn’t seem to call for any comment.
Your post is a heck of a lot less enlightening than the one you are posting about.
In a culture that will murder a daughter for having been raped, I would expect the family to take out its own trash.
This is a war for survival, and Russia will be tougher than the enemy.
