Why pro cheerleading may be one of America’s worst jobs

Parents, don’t let your girls grow up to be cheerleaders.

That’s just one lesson to be gleaned from a lawsuit filed by a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders, a National Football League team, which alleges sub-minimum wage pay and other labor abuses.

While professional cheerleading may seem glamorous, the cheerleaders allegedly earn barely enough to afford their own pom-poms. And, by the way, if they forget their pom-poms, the cheerleaders are reportedly socked with a fine.

[Snip]

The Chargers stress that the role is a part-time job and that cheerleaders “should at least hold a part-time job or attend college part-time.”

With such dismal conditions, why would anyone want to become a cheerleader?

Bender, I am mystified at how a man can look at that picture and not believe in Intelligent Design.

Let’s be honest, women have two paths to fame, power and fortune.

They can either hitch their wagon to a powerful, rich man or they can struggle on their own until their talents are recognized as being of value to society.

With role models such as Hillary Clinton, Wendy Davis(etc.) the first option is the quickest and easiest.

Cheerleaders aren’t cheerleading because of a predisposition to wave pom-poms.

They never seem to show cheerleaders anymore during the game, the NFL sucks. Back in the day they were on the screen ALL THE TIME, and it was good.

And when they do show them there is a graphic on the screen cutting them off from the waist down.

This is why the Dallas Cowboys require proof of some other form of support, such as being a housewife or “student”. You can’t do this for a job, they don’t want to pay that much.
You do it for the status, not the money.

They would from the only picket line people would actually stop to admire.
They’d be front page of every newspaper if they spelled out demands in bikinis.

WHy does the NFL need volunteers for the Super Bowl? Can’t they pay for temporary jobs? Never understood that either.
