home of the high-speed autobahn, is perhaps one of the few countries that has had as intense a love affair with the automobile as the U.S. But in an effort to go green, the country's second-largest city is studying ways to eliminate cars by 2034.

That’s just it; most of the major European metropolitan areas have long-established public transit, and generally speaking - having used various public transit schemes throughout Europe - I’d say it’s quite adequate. Personally, I liked the system in Tokyo; that’s probably my favorite.

Berlin, or Prague, or Warsaw, or Istanbul certainly isn’t Houston, or Los Angeles, or anywhere else for that matter. I’d have to say that NYC does it quite well, but then again, that’s a relatively small geographical area with high population density.

I know Portland, OR has been floundering for years with their light-rail scheme. It’s fine in the urban core of downtown, but that’s about it. TriMet’s insane dream of expanding the system to resemble something akin to the Berlin S-Bahn system is laughable at best, and ‘shroom-inspired lunacy at worst.

Those people institutionally and intestinally hate automobiles

Leftism is motivated by envy, and surprisingly most of it is nothing more than size envy. An automobile is the second largest possession most Americans own, the largest being a free standing house. They hate that even more. Big trains and skyscrapers are their phallic symbol responses.

I’ve read that ancient ROME banned chariots on the streets in the daylight.

See what that got them?

I dated a Serbian woman who says she thought America’s car culture was foolish and wasteful before she came here.

Today she has a Toyota Tundra.

You must have a car in LA. Period.

I feel sorry for people who come here not knowing that. They drop like flies.

I’m sure this has crossed de Blasio’s mind in NYC... ban autos, because nothing says “equality” better than ordering everyone to use buses and trains.

Step 1 - get rid of cars.

Step 2 - build special tunnels for all public transportation around, in and out of the city.

Step 3 - Build a wall and control the tunnels so citizens can't escape.
