Incredible Multi-Year iPhone Run Ends (Fewer iphones sold in N/A YOY)
Forbes ^

Posted on 01/27/2014 4:30:11 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

Apple AAPL +0.8% (AAPL) reported earnings after the market close. The Apple stock ended the regular session at $550.50. In the after-hours it has touched $501, down about 8%.

As I listened to the conference call, just like I have listened to every conference call since before the launch of iPhone, I could not help but conclude that the incredible multi-year iPhone run has ended. Here is why.

Apple only sold 51 million iPhones during the quarter. This compares to consensus of about 56 million iPhones. This is one of the biggest misses in recent memory.

There were two big surprises on the conference call. First, iPhone sales declined year over year in North America. Second, an admission by Apple that it was adversely affected by changes in upgrade policies by phone carriers.

Will removing the iPhone 4 battery void the warranty?

The warranty will be void and yes, they will be able to tell.

You mean the battery that usually covers the microSD card slot?
Yeah, iPple phones are tricky that way.

The i stands for “inadequate. “

Fewer were sold in North American this year than last. That is not a winning strategy going forward no matter how you cut it. You can have all the money in the world, but if you cannot grow our business, you are essentially a bank.

Apple can win back more buyers by cutting the price, but that will hurt their profits. They have painted themselves into a corner.

They are all going to lose sales. The iPhone 4 still works sufficiently for anyone but a true power user. Why upgrade? Ditto for Droid. Especially true given how obastard’s policies have successfully (and intentionally) degraded the middle class (Bourgeoisie in obastard’s Marxist parlance).

Droid is not losing sales. And the Samsung Galaxy is the top selling phone worldwide.....a fact never mentioned on domestic media.

True. But I said they all WILL. At a certain point the tech is ALL better than what the users need. And if the users are worried about their $10,000 obamacare deductible for their kids (the “affordable” one), they won’t bother to upgrade their more than sufficient tech. JMHO

It took the ENTIRE rest of the industry just to break even with a single product from Apple.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III with a 32 GB Micro SD card installed. In many ways, it's still a better phone than the iPhone 5 and still compares well with the iPhone 5S, especially with the current Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) installed. Samsung is testing the Android 4.4 (KitKat) upgrade and that should be out by April 2014.

However, I still consider Apple to have the superior tablet computer. I have an iPad Air (32 GB Wi-Fi white case) and it's still way superior to most other tablet computers out there. Now, when will Google release the second-generation Nexus 10 tablet?

Did anyone say Apple was going under? Remember, Apple had a lot of bad years between their original success, and their return in the late 90s. They didn’t go under, but they were not doing that well.

I love my Samsung Galaxy S4 and would not trade it for an iPhone if you paid me. Amazing device.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yes it is - it’s a better camera than any camera that I have had. And it’s a phone, and a browser, hotspot.....
I know most modern phones do all this stuff. But the S4 is good Design.

The entire current intellectual premise of current smart phones is built upon the original iPhone of 2007.

The rivals have not come close to Apple’s dominance.

Good for them that they have something that can now compete.

Why would people change the battery on their phones?

Because they keep their phones for so many years that they need to put a new battery in it?

Actually no.

Apple has a superior set of interoperable devices that allows the root iOS to cooperate in ways that are difficult for Google and Android. Windows does not share so well.

It is amazing how people have for almost 20 years now decried the absolute end of Apple.

If people don’t want to buy apple products then fine. Why does that choice have to be followed with epitaph for Apple?

I love apple but I am glad samsung and android make phones to compete and challenge the market.

I fully understand why Obamafoam users hate Apple so much on this forum.

Apple is an American company. Samsung is Korean, Lenovo is Chinese. Look at other tech manufacturers, most are foreign. I wonder why folks here don't champion American companies. They hate America?
