House GOP leaders are expected to push for legalizing millions of undocumented workers

The controversial proposal is reigniting another identity crisis over the future of the GOP. Some on the right have begun to mobilize against House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, with hopes of quashing plans to introduce a series of bills.

Leaders of the House of Representatives are expected to release the principles at their annual retreat later this week in Cambridge, Md. Those principles are likely to include tighter border security, an expanded guest-worker program, additional visas for high-tech workers and legalization for many of those people in the country illegally.

It’s the latest signal that the House leadership is taking immigration seriously. Boehner also hired a new aide last month, Rebecca Tallent, who’s considered a proponent of legalization. She was the director of immigration policy at the nonprofit Bipartisan Policy Center and also worked for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the proponents of a comprehensive immigration proposal that included a path to citizenship.

Their plan is to wait until AFTER the primaries (sometime in April) so that members who vote FOR immigration reform will no longer be at risk of having a primary challenger. No, the goal should be to drastically reduce legal immigration from the current 1.2 million a year to something approaching 300,000 or less. We should also bring in people with the skills we need and not hundreds of thousands of high school dropouts. The US brings in more legal immigrants every year than the rest of the world combined. Legal immigration is far too easy.

We have just had the two biggest decades of immigration in American history. In 1970, one in 21 was foreign born; today it is one in 8, the highest in 90 years; and within a decade it will be one in 7 the highest in our history.

Obama could make big news tonight if he were to say that he will accept legalization of status of the lawbreakers (read amnesty) without a path to citizenship to stop deportations and reunite families. The Dems know that they this gives them amnesty and still allows them to use the club of citizenship against the Reps. It is win-win for Obama and the Dems.

An open letter to the GOP Members of the House

As a Representative in Congress, you took this Oath:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

"Support and defend the Constitution" it says. Did you see that? That document requires, per Art.4, S.4, that

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."

An invasion is what we are suffering. That invasion has accelerated with each "comprehensive immigration reform" previously enacted. Instead of another disastrous reform that yet again increases the incentives for millions more to try their luck crossing the southern border, a Representative who took his Oath and the Constitution seriously would be pressing for what the American people have repeatedly said they want - not what Senator Schumer, Mexico, some border state farmers and homebuilders or the Chamber of Commerce rentseekers want. That is:

1. secure the border in a transparently verifiable way;
2. end the anchor-baby interpretation of the 14th Amendment;
3. enforce eVerify without exception and with severe penalties;
4. no government benefits beyond critical emergency care (and that ought to be billed back to the Mexican government); and
5. NO "Path to Citizenship" - ever - for anyone who has entered the US illegally.

Any bill that does not accomplish these five things is unacceptable. It is de facto amnesty. And it will inevitably encouarge millions more illegal entries.

If the GOP is complicit in this amnesty fiasco, either by taking up the Senate bill or through some piecemeal slight of hand with a series of House bills such as we hear are being cooked up this week, the GOP will cease to exist. It will not survive through the 2016 elections. The people will shun the over-tanned, glad-handing, backslapping quislings and look elsewhere for leaders who actually have the spine for the fight. Make no mistake - to me and many, many others, amnesty is the GOP's Rubicon. Cross it at your electoral peril.

The TP caucus should loudly lobby for amendments that would deny application of the law to any illegal who has used a SS# in order to work, those who have been convicted of any crime and those who have operated a motor vehicle without a license.
