Recount turns control of Va. Senate to Democrats

Democrats will take control of the Virginia Senate now that a recount in Hampton Roads has found Lynwood Lewis the winner of a special election.

Lewis, who until now has served in the House of Delegates, beat Republican Wayne Coleman by 11 votes out of 23,000 votes cast.

The State Board of Elections says the final totals are 10,203 votes for Lewis to 10,192 votes for Coleman in the district that covers Accomack, Mathews and Northampton counties and the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

Coleman has called Lewis to concede the race.

Lewis had been initially declared the winner of the Jan. 7 special election by just nine votes.

When Lewis is sworn in, it will create an even 20-20 split between Republicans and Democrats in the Senate. Democrats have the tie-breaking vote thanks to Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, whose Senate seat Lewis will fill.

Republicans had control of the chamber during the last two years due to the tie- breaking vote of then-Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling.

The GOP has controlled the Senate since inauguration day on Jan. 11 because Northam and new Attorney General Mark Herring had to resign their Senate seats to take statewide office.

Democrat Jennifer Wexton has already been sworn into Herring's seat representing parts of Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

Lewis joining the Senate will not change any of the votes that have been taken so far this session while Republicans have been in control.

Oklahoma is pretty safe.

“Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything.” ― Joseph Stalin

First you hire a bunch of fake pollsters to predict the result they have decided on, then you rig the voting machines to deliver the outcome you predicted. The people then accept the result, and decide they must do more, which will put more money into their political operators pocket. Repeat every 4 years.

And the more I think about it, I think your “safe” states there are all doomed.

Why, you ask? Because they have pretty mountains, and skiing.

Lib-elites loves them some pretty mountains and skiing. They’re not so big on wind, heat, plains, and ranching/farming though.

Saw it happen to Colorado, up close and personal.

Yeah, it’s pretty grim. People need to start pumping out some kids and then raising them with the right values.

I did my part and some.

What about the third party breakdown? Can’t complain if we continue to split the vote.

Stole another one. If RATS didn’t cheat, they’d never win.

A Republican DA should find 11 or more convicted felons that voted Democrat and demand another election.

Democrats are not very good with numbers, but they are experts at recounting ballots to obtain a win. I hope they realize that their corruption eats into the few remaining shreds of legitimacy of big government.

Been watching old bogart movies anyway. Largo was also the name of the villain in Thunderball (remaid as “Never Say Never Again “)

Isn’t it funny how democrats always seem to win those recounts?

Thesis: whenever there is a race that is razor thin close ... the DEMS know it and they send in the troops ... or bring up a new last minute issue .... to throw it their way. Meanwhile, conservatives are 15 miles away in another district where their candidate loses by 20 points.

Perhaps the conservatives in VA are more savvy. But in the Northeast, winning is not priority number one for some grassroots folks. Supporting their favorite candidate is enough to keep them happy.

PS I've been part of 3 state rep races since 2010 in CT where the GOPer won 51% to 49%. And a state Senate race that was 51.5% to 48.5%. We re-wrote the script.

"And to think I just moved to VA to escape the gulag of Maryland, sigh."

And a lot of us have touted the benefits and freedom of Virginia vs. Maryland. The cancer of DC has spread far into Northern Virginia and, I fear, it is a terminal case until and unless DC is drastically downsized.

As I have said in previous threads: Virginia is not a swing state anymore, it is blue.

The national election calculus starts with Virigina as a blue state. That’s a simple truth.

The only place to go now for people in that area is to move to W. Virginia.

That said, both PA and VA are far superior to MD for a variety of reasons.
